Happy 4th of July from Bishop Ireton!
Bishop Ireton turns 60 this year! We're kicking off our yearlong celebration of this momentous anniversary with the reveal of our special 60th Anniversary logo along with the meaning behind each of its components.
Last week, 13 BI students and three adults spent a week at the Arlington diocesan mission in Bánica, Dominican Republic. Their work included renovating and painting a wooden chapel, digging and building a latrine and constructing a barbed wire fence. All of these projects took place at the Holy Spirit Chapel in Guaroa, about one hour south of Bánica. The students also interacted with the local adults and children at the worksite. Free time included playing cards, swimming in the river, attending local Spanish Masses, and encountering the joyful people that we served. We're so proud of the selflessness of our students and adults as they truly lived Jesus' call to serve others.
There’s no off-season for these Cardinals! 🔥
Last weekend, ten Bishop Ireton athletes competed at the Adidas Nationals in Greensboro, NC, breaking 7 school records! The Boys Sprint Medley Relay team (Stephen Ntambwe, Drew Madden, Sean Owens, Charlie Bestic) finished 3rd, earning All-American status. 🇺🇸
What a fantastic end to an impressive outdoor track season, wrapping up with 13 new school records! 🏅
Today we observe the Juneteenth Holiday which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and delivered General Order No. 3, which declared that all slaves were free. We hope that you can take time today to reflect and think about how you can make a difference at Bishop Ireton in creating an environment where all members of the community feel valued, welcomed, and embraced.
BI was packed last night as our Admissions team put on a great New Parent Orientation and new student event. While the parents learned the ins and outs of Bishop Ireton from the Administration, our new Cardinals got to know each other with icebreaker games and more led by our Student Life team! After the presentation and the student activities, everyone enjoyed Chick-fil-A in Murphy Hall to close out the night. We are excited to officially welcome our new students to the nest in August!
Last night, the 2024 Cappies were held at the Kennedy Center! BI was nominated for six awards for the transfixing spring production of “Into the Woods.” Ellie Viana (‘24) earned the award for Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Musical after winning last year as Best Female Vocalist for “The Music Man.” Fun fact! With her win, Ellie becomes just the second BI student to win back to back performing awards following Carolyn (nee Myers) Kashner (BI ‘01) who won Lead Actress in a Musical in 2000 and Lead Actress in a Play in 2001. Congratulations to Ellie and all the nominees from BI!
Please pray for our amazing chaplain Father Noah Morey who is celebrating the 9th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood today!

Yesterday at the 2024 Commencement Exercises, we presented the Salesian Medal, considered by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to be the highest honor bestowed on any student, to Maria Mate and Claire Mitchell.
