Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals

In February of 2019, Bartow County amended the animal ordinance in order to make TNR (Trap, Neuter or Spay, Return) legal.

At that time we took on the task of providing TNR for the citizens of Bartow County.

I think most of you on this page know Malissa and can imagine how devastating this news is for all of us in rescue. While I'm not a rescue, I worked directly with Malissa and she saved the majority of the cats from the Bartow County Animal Control for the past 3-4 years.
Please remember her family and her many friends. Your prayers are appreciated and if you can help with any of the needs listed in the original post, please do. This is certainly nothing that anyone was prepared for.

It is with a very heavy heart that we have some difficult news to share. Unfortunately, our founder and the owner of Kitty Up, Malissa, passed away unexpectedly. As you can imagine we are all devastated and in complete shock. Malissa was truly one of a kind.

She always went above and beyond pouring her life into saving cats and helping so many people in need. Over the last 3 years, with her efforts, this small little rescue saved thousands of cats and changed their lives forever. No kitty too small, old, sick or hurt, she said yes every single time she could and still said yes when she knew it was going to be a hard road.

She was loved by so many in the community and had a ripple effect in the lives of people all over. She was our founder, a mother, a wife, an advocate and above all a friend. We will deeply miss her and all the ways she impacted each of us.

Over the next few weeks we will be making all the arrangements to close the shelter and honor her memory, passion and lifeโ€™s work. We ask for privacy and time to grieve as we transition forward through this heartbreaking tragedy.

If you would like to donate towards operating cost while we navigate this please use the PayPal below to donate. Thank you to everyone who has supported the rescue and Malissa in all her efforts to change a big piece of Georgias kitty community.

If you would like donate towards the family for expenses or sign up for meals please use the links below. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Hug Bob and Alleah for each of us Malissa, we love you and miss you desperately. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

As we start this new year, we desperately need funding. While we saved the most lives in 2022, we received the lowest donations. It has put us behind.

Anyone who knows us knows we take the broken and unadoptable when no one else will because every life deserves a chance.

Last year we were able to spay and neuter almost 1,000 cats. None of that would be possible without the help of supporters like you.

We are a nonprofit that solely depends on donations until we can find sponsorship. Please help us be able to continue our efforts.

Recently my phone is ringing multiple times per day asking for my assistance in removing cats. The story is that our county's animal control is no longer taking cats and they are being referred to Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals for assistance.

Again, I must state the purpose of this non-profit organization!

Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals is here to assist with the cost for spay/neuter of feral cats as well as pet cats when financial assistance in needed in order to prevent further unwanted kittens. I do keep cat traps that can be borrowed and returned, but I no longer trap cats myself, nor do I transport them to the vet for their surgery.

If you need the financial assistance, I am more than happy to assist you and give you advice on trapping and caring for your cats once they have their surgery.

I am not a RESCUE and CANNOT REMOVE any animals from their original location. If you need a cat removed, please contact animal control and insist on the names of licensed rescue groups.

This has been a goal for Kitty UP Cat Rescue since they opened. This one rescue saves practically all of the cats that come into the Bartow County Animal Control. Without them, our animal control would never be able to claim to be a no kill shelter.

This van will allow them to transport more cats (as well as dogs from other shelters) in order to make room to save more. Please help us to save the animals.

The Kitty Up crew has been transporting cats and dogs for two years with great success, but it is time to get a van. Last year we were able to help save the lives of roughly 4,000 animals that went to northern rescues with awaiting adopters. Working with a transport coalition, we can rescue twice as much if we have a Kitty Up van.

The van we are trying to get is a Ford High Roof, Extended Length transit vehicle. This particular van is ideal for transporting because the space allows the animals to have a safe and comfortable journey to their new homes.

Our goal is $60,000.

It's Soap Box Time!

Residents of Bartow County have an option of having their cats spayed or neutered for FREE! Why are you still letting your cats breed? Contact this page for details concerning the spay/neuter of your pet cats as well as any stray cats in your neighborhood!

The rules are very simple. Make an appointment with one of the low cost options given to you when you contact this page. Give us the date scheduled for the surgery and take your cat for the appointment.

There is NO EXCUSE to have so many unwanted kittens being born with nowhere to go.

05/16/2022

Posting so you will know the days and hours for My Kids Have Paws for the week of May 16-20, 2022. Please note their new rule about trapped cats. If you plan to trap more than 2 cats, call ahead since they may have too many if more people bring more than 2 TNR cats in one day.

Happy mid-May Sunday!

We are open Tues-Fri, 8:30-6:30 this week. Our veterinarian will not be in the clinic tomorrow (Monday), but our receptionists will be there to answer your questions.

We accept male cats and feral cats for surgery without an appointment every day that we're open. Drop off time is between 9:30-9:45. If you need a different time, please call and we can work with you. If you are planning on trapping more than 1 or 2 feral cats, please let us know ahead of time so we can be prepared - we may need to board them overnight if we can't get to them that day.

Our May Rome Transport day is Tuesday May 24th. We still have one dog spay spot, two cat spay spots, and a few male cat spots available. If you need transport help from Rome to the Dalton clinic, please give us a call to get scheduled. There is a $10 transportation fee added to the cost of the surgery. This service is for anyone in any county. We have a Rome transport day scheduled every month, so if you can't make it this month, check with us for future months.

Have a wonderful week!

Bartow County Cat Owners,
If you have a cat or care for a cat that has not been spayed or neutered, please contact Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals. We can offer assistance with the expense of having your cat(s) fixed. There is NO EXCUSE for kittens to be born that aren't wanted.
While Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals will not cover all of the expenses for having your cat fixed, we will cover the expense of the surgery portion of the bill. I don't know of another county that is offering free spay/neuter for owned cats.
You will be responsible for making the appointment as well as taking your cat to the vet, There are only a few select participating vets in this area, but this will be well worth the time involved in having your pet cared for.
You must contact us before making your appointments.
Thank you, Kathy Byars Davis

Anyone wishing to receive help with the spay or neuter of your cat should contact me (Kathy Byars Davis) on Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals Page. Any other means of contacting me may or may not ever be seen.

Again, if you are a Bartow County resident and need financial assistance in order to have your cat spayed or neutered, Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals will do our best to help you.

If your cat is not feral/wild, we will offer assistance in the cost for the surgery portion of your bill only.

If you need to borrow traps for TNR purposes, I do have traps available and I will cover the cost for the TNR package.

Please follow these directions:
Contact me with your name and number of cats you have.
Make an appointment with either My Kids Have Paws, or CatSnip
Give me the date of your appointment as well as the name on the account.
Once these steps are completed, I will contact either of the clinics you choose and verify payment through Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals.

The purpose of Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals is to save lives by preventing unwanted animals from being born. The best way to achieve this goal is to spay or neuter your pets as well as those that are running loose in your neighborhood.

02/12/2022

I can make this happen. Let me know if you are needing help in getting your cat spayed or neutered. Helping Hands can Help You!

The 420,000 # though shared over and over by TNR groups all over the country, continues to remain a controversy.

"According to wildlife biologists, the reproductive and offspring mortality rates of free-roaming cats are similar to wild carnivores. One female cat averages six kittens per year and 75% of her kittens die before reproductive age. When using these criteria, math experts calculate that one female cat and her offspring will produce 100 cats in seven years, assuming that all adult cats remain alive for all seven years. Although still an overestimate, this figure is far less daunting and realistic."

Whether it's 10, 100, 500, 400,000 - SPAY AND NEUTER SAVES LIVES. Pls fix your cats and those you feed but refuse to claim as yours. Pls and Thank You ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿˆ.

Dear Bartow County Residents,

Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals is trying to prevent the massive number of animals (Cats in particular) from being turned in to our local Animal Control facility or worse yet, being dumped out somewhere so they are sure to die a miserable death. Our goal is to provide low cost or free spay/neuter for your pet cats or any feral/non-tame cats.

Helping Hands for Bartow County Animals also provides assistance with TNR in the county. Unfortunately, the city chose not to make TNR legal. TNR is literally Trap, Neuter (or spay), Return. This means I cannot remove any cats from their original location, but I will be happy to cover the cost for the spay or neuter of feral cats, as long as they are returned to the place where they were trapped.

My Kids Have Paws is located in Dalton, GA. Their number is 706-671-1104. The majority of the surgeries I have covered have been performed at this location. In order for us to help you with the cost, you must first contact me through this page and give me your name, how many cats, and if they are pets or if they are feral (needing to be trapped). If the cats are pets, I only cover the cost for the spay or neuter. Any other services you want will have to be covered by you. Once we discuss the offer, you will need to make your appointment with the clinic. On the day before the appointment, you will need to text me to remind me to send a message to the clinic to verify payment for the surgery.

For those of you who don't want to drive to Dalton, CatSnip is an alternate place for the spay/neuter. Again, you will need to make your appointment and then let me know when the surgery is scheduled. I will cover the cost for the surgery only and the cats must be friendly. The information to contact CatSnip can be found on Facebook.

I hope you will take advantage of this offer so we can prevent so many unwanted cats as well as deaths of cats and kittens. A vetted cat is a much healthier cat.
