Thank you, Akron AAZK, for going above and beyond to honor Jennifer's legacy! We recently heard a report from Jennifer's colleagues about how her corridor is progressing. They have received wonderful support, but could still use more funds to expand this important habitat-connecting space.
Anyone interesting in donating to Jennifer's Forest Corridor can click here: https://www.savetheliontamarin.org/jennifer-mickelberg-memorial
Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you even more to our Pi Day Committee members and Pi Day Pi-ees! The Pi Day Committee has been planning this event since January, and our Pi-ees have been haunted by faint whiffs of whipped cream for more than 24 hours now.
With your fantastic support, we sold out on pizza (only turning away a couple of folks, thankfully!) and raised just under $200.00 for professional development funding and hosting fun celebrations like National Zoo Keeper Week and Vet Tech Week!
Check out our new album of photos and videos from the event!
Exciting news! Our red pandas, Ruby and Rose were born at John Ball Zoo.
👏 The John Ball Zoo proudly become a founding member of the red panda program! This initiative, marking our 41st SAFE species program, will use an approach that integrates 📋, campaigns 💡, and efforts 🔎 to increase awareness of and involvement in red panda .
🐾 The John Ball Zoo has a long-standing commitment to red panda conservation, as demonstrated by their work with the Red Panda Network to restore the species' natural habitat 🌳. Joining the SAFE program will allow them to expand their impact! Amazing conservation news!!
🎉 Great news: The scimitar-horned oryx has moved from "Extinct in the Wild" to "Endangered" on the IUCN Red List!
Once gone from the wild due to poaching and droughts, this antelope is making comeback.
Thanks to global efforts, 140 mature oryx now roam freely in Chad's Ouadi Rimé-Ouadi Achim Faunal Reserve, with 331 calves born by 2021.
Local communities and national authorities played a crucial role in this success, but the fight against poaching continues.

Our friends at GRAZE know that the holiday season can be a difficult time for some, and they offer resources to help us get through tough times. Shannon McKinney, Director of Proactive Programming at GRAZE, wrote an article called Gratitude: More than an Attitude, But a Science which gives 5 pointers on how to start or have a gratitude practice/reflection.

Thank you to the over 100 people who came to Brazilian Bingo last night! It was great to see so many familiar faces gathering to raise money for Jennifer's Forest Corridor.
We are excited to announce that last night's event raised over $2200!! We were also notified of a generous individual who decided to donate $1000 directly to the Save the Golden Lion Tamarin fund for Jennifer's Forest Corridor.
If you would like to add your support to 's work to connect a population of over 3000 golden lion tamarins in memory of Dr. Jennifer Mickelberg, please donate here: https://www.savetheliontamarin.org/jennifer-mickelberg-memorial
Huge thanks and kudos to Zoo Atlanta's Educators!
Save the Golden Lion Tamarin is the beneficiary of our upcoming fundraiser, Brazilian Bingo, as it has been for quite some time. Jennifer was involved with the organization for over a decade, and we are happy to see the wildlife corridors she cared so much about building become part of the way we can honor her memory. Please see the link below to donate toward the tree corridor being planted in Jennifer's honor.
Honoring Jennifer Mickelberg - 12/22/1975 - 10/31/2023
GLTs have lost a good friend. Dr. Jennifer Mickelberg is a hero in the 75-year struggle to save the golden lion tamarin. Jennifer could galvanize a scientific conference with a presentation on GLT genetics and population biology, and then cheerfully sell GLT t-shirts to conferees to raise money for their conservation.
To honor Jennifer’s legacy of “connectedness,” will plant its most important forest corridor to date—the one that will finally achieve Jennifer’s goal of 2,000 GLTs living in connected forest.

Brazilian Bingo is next Monday! Please join us as we have fun and raise funds for Save the Golden Lion Tamarin!

Our upcoming event, Brazilian Bingo, is an annual event supporting Save the Golden Lion Tamarin. Dr. Jennifer Mickelberg joined their Board of Directors in 2010 and attended Brazilian Bingo each year to speak about the organization's efforts to protect golden lion tamarins in their native habitat. Her passion for the cause was clear through her words and her actions as she spent more than 20 years working to preserve the species and their home.
We encourage you to attend the event to help us support this organization that meant so much to Jennifer while building and celebrating the community she loved, but if you cannot, please consider making a donation to Save the Golden Lion Tamarin either directly (https://www.savetheliontamarin.org/jennifer-mickelberg-memorial?fbclid=IwAR0PK-STlE-cYuKfsnEXyGHdb5Q5fVWnUQJAmmNtMtAnZgKU7PLhp7EICgk) or by including a note about Jennifer or GLTs as you send a donation at Paypal.me/GAaazk
