SafeHouse Outreach
SafeHouse Outreach is an urban outreach committed to effecting real change
One of our friends shared this post with over 300 memories yesterday. Going through these pictures is quite a hopeful journey, showing Godโs work unfolding and growing to this day.
Some of you reading this will find fond memories in these pictures! Some of you reading this will come and make some of your own.
Our next Volunteer Orientation is this Saturday at 10am at 89 Ellis. If you are interested in learning how to make a real difference, this is where it starts.
Email [email protected] for more information.
Northside UMC is sending groups if youth to SHO this week for a mission experience. We are forever grateful for those who come out to learn how to truly be the hands and feet of Christ, in real life!
We recently installed a prayer request box for our friends. Almost daily, there are prayer requests left for us. Please help us lift up those who have asked for prayer to know they have been prayed over.
(All prayer requests are on the board in the Volunteer Office. Please feel free to stop by and pray.)
"Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference."
- Max Lucado
๐ Heartwarming News Alert! ๐
Hey everyone! We just had to share this amazing story with you all. Our incredible problem solver, Pastor Joe, has done it again! ๐
Our dear friend Mindy was in a tough spot and needed to get back to her family in Daytona. Thanks to Pastor Joe's unwavering support and quick action, he was able to assist Mindy in obtaining a bus ticket to reunite with her loved ones. ๐โค๏ธ
It's moments like these that remind us of the power of community and kindness. Let's all take a moment to appreciate the everyday heroes among us. Safe travels, Mindy! We're so happy for you! ๐

This July 4, we are wishing each of you a day filled with celebration of this important holiday and reflection on the many freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
Please note: our office will be closed in observance of the holiday, but we'll be back on July 5th, eager to assist with any questions or concerns you may have.
Happy Independence Day to you and yours!
You are welcome here!
It is exactly because of faithful volunteers like the Ammons family, who prepares and serves a meal for over 200 people every single month, that SHO is able to thrive in service!! Because they do what they do, miracles are served daily. Thank you!
There is no shortage of food or ministries in downtown Atlanta for those experiencing homelessness. There is, however, a shortage of relationships, discipleship, bridge-building, real friendships, and leaning in hard toward the interpersonal relationships required to really help people. At SHO, this is our vision. There are over 6,000,000 people in metro Atlanta and fewer than 4000 experiencing homelessness. The type of ministry Jesus taught us to do is completely possible here. There is hope! (Thank you Carl from World Harvest for your faith and your faithfulness!)
"It is a beautiful thing when folks in poverty are no longer just a missions project but become genuine friends and family with whom we laugh, cry, dream and struggle."
-Shane Claiborne

SHO hosted another amazing community day group and baptismal service this Saturday. This initiative was led by Sincerae Chapman and our outstanding Volunteer Coordinator, Nzingha Ashford. Every single day at SHO, seeds are being planted and watered, and God is making them grow!
(The group even donated a smoker to SHO. We can't wait to try it out!)

Thank you SO much to those who helped us get our dorm rooms ready for our group of 30 souls who are coming this week to learn how to be mission-minded! Please keep everyone in prayer for a spectacular life-changing week here in downtown Atlanta.
"Join us every Wednesday at noon for A Cup of Joe with Pastor Joe! Enjoy a small group Bible study and motivational talk, plus refreshments. Let's grow together each week!" โ
We often get asked about all the incredible things weโre up to. So, here's a little snapshot of who we are and what we're all about:
๐ Who We Are: At SafeHouse Outreach, our mission is to help restore lives experiencing extreme poverty through faith, love, and compassionate service. ๐
โ๏ธ What We Do:
Impact Services: Impact Services at 89 Ellis St NE in Atlanta aim to nourish not only people's bodies but also their spirits through faith, hope, encouragement, and attentive listening. Volunteers who attend a monthly orientation are invited to join in serving meals to those in need, fostering meaningful connections with the community.
Problem Solvers: Our Problem Solvers tackle urgent needs such as obtaining essential documents, reuniting families, and assisting with utility bills or short-term rentals. They offer compassionate support and listen actively while seeking practical solutions to each individual's challenges.
Next-Level: The Next-Level program offers personalized support and diverse services to help individuals achieve their personal definitions of success. With a holistic approach, they provide assistance in employment, housing, and behavioral health, aiming to empower participants to succeed confidently and responsibly.

At SHO, volunteers become friends, and friends become family ... and we have room for you, too!
(Thank you Pat Peyer and Bridge of Light for your faithful and outstanding service!!)
"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive."
- Howard Thurman

We are midway through the year, and SafeHouse Outreach has been busy working toward our goals!
Hereโs some of what we have been up to:
We are proud to announce the receipt of a transformative $1.1 million grant award from Partners for HOME. This grant, awarded for the Bridge Response Initiative (BRI) Rapid Rehousing Program, underscores SafeHouse's commitment to combat homelessness in Metro Atlanta.
In May alone, our Programs team assisted over 500 people with support services and helped more than 15 people with move-in costs.
Our organization is also growing as we have proudly added 3 new faces to our SafeHouse Family this week.
To help us continue the momentum in the second half of the year, we encourage you to share this post with your network to increase our community visibility or consider making a donation on our website. ๐ Ultimately, your support is what fuels our mission!
Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, which honors the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
This day serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the African American community, while providing an opportunity for all Americans to consider how we can make our society more just and equitable.
With that said, we invite you to join us in celebrating and commemorating this important day. And please note our office will be closed today in observance of Juneteenth.
Should you have any questions or needs during this time, feel free to reach out via email or leave a message, and we'll get back to you as soon as we return.
Today, we send our warmest wishes to each of you, as we collectively pause to honor the father figures who have offered us guidance, wisdom, courage, and love.
Whether you're celebrating surrounded by loved ones or cherishing memories of times past, we hope your weekend is filled with joy and gratitude.
From all of us, Happy Fatherโs Day.
When we invite people to , this is what it looks like. You canโt unsee or unlearn what you experience on a City Walk. It is where real change happens โฆ in ourselves.
Save the Date!

Passion City's Love Atlanta Week has been going on this week across the city. We are grateful for the people who because in those groups are individuals who commit to learning and spreading the word on how to truly help those who need it most. (There are a couple of people in this picture who are here volunteering and pouring into the lives of the hurting almost daily.) Thank you!!! This is what makes the difference. This is what makes the good news believable. Thank you Passion City for all your help!
Did you know that over 44 million people in the U.S., including one in five children, face the challenge of hunger?
At SafeHouse, we are deeply committed to fighting hunger and ensuring that everyone, particularly the most vulnerable, has access to nutritious food. This month serves as an important time to raise awareness and drive change in the battle against hunger.
Hunger is a complex crisis that affects health, education, and one's ability to live a productive and fulfilling life.

The โkitchen tableโ is where we become family. At SHO, this is where the difference is made, in the lives of our volunteers, and our guests.
"Everybody is a story. When I was a child, people sat around kitchen tables and told their stories. We don't do that so much anymore. Sitting around the table telling stories is not just a way of passing time. It is the way the wisdom gets passed along. The stuff that helps us to live a life worth remembering."
- Rachel Naomi Remen
We at SHO are focused on making real differences in the lives of real people. If you want to help, this is where it starts.
June is National Men's Health Month! ๐น
Did you know that men are significantly less likely than women to seek medical advice or schedule regular health check-ups? Only 60% of men make it a priority to visit the doctor annually, and 40% wait until they're faced with serious health issues to seek medical attention.
This Menโs Health Month let's support the men in our lives. Encourage them to schedule regular health check-ups, openly discuss mental well-being, and consult health care professionals for any concerns.
Read the graphic for more facts about menโs health, and be sure to share with your network to spread awareness ๐
