Good vibes only! A little positivity can go a long way, so spread some summer cheer today.
This Monday, make a quit buddy! Take a moment to think about someone in your life who wants to quit.
If your favorite entertainer comes to town, you’re more likely to buy tickets if a friend joins you than you are to go alone. It’s the same with quitting smoking. Studies show some people might have better success if they quit with a buddy.
Finding a Quit Buddy
Your Immediate Circle. Consider the people who are closest to you like a friend, a family member, a partner, or a co-worker.
Your Social Media Circle. Your next circle of friends and acquaintances could be online. Reach out on your social media channels or to a smoker acquaintance.
Your Greater Online Community Circle. If you can’t find someone in your more immediate circles, try visiting sites like Become an Ex, Smokefree, or find a group on Meetup to join. At the very least, you’ll find a lively chat to join.
Once you find your quit buddy, here are some things to do together to make your quit relationship worthwhile:
Commit. Choose a quit day that seems right to both of you. Starting on a Monday is an ideal day to kick off a new habit because it will reinforce a fresh, smoke-free start to your week.
Share. Discuss your reasons for smoking and why you want to quit and stay quit. Your quit buddy will learn as much from you as you will from him or her.
Listen. Offer a non-judgmental ear as your quit buddy talks through the ups and downs of quitting.
Healthy Activities. If your quit buddy is in the same town, find fun things to do together, like working out, hiking, or dancing. And if your quit buddy doesn’t live nearby, go out anyway. Meeting and being around other people who don’t smoke can be very supportive.
Be positive. Discuss the importance of positivity to your quit. It’s time to be encouraging and inspirational for each other, especially in the face of how challenging quitting can be. Acknowledge that you have each other’s back.
Looking for some fun activities you can do with your partner to get moving this Monday? Get started on the right foot with some dancing.
Because it’s seen as a fun way to celebrate and let loose, dancing’s health benefits are often overlooked; but dancing can be an excellent source of physical activity that benefits your muscular strength, balance, and flexibility. The combination of simple movements and moderate pace make dancing a great workout alternative for people of all fitness levels. Dancing also gives you an opportunity to let loose and clear your head.
Ready to dance? You can get started today.
You don’t need to be an expert – it’s easy to find online classes or instructional videos. You can also explore in-person classes at your local gym or dance studio.
There is no equipment necessary, except a good pair of comfortable shoes.
Dancing can be for everyone. If you or your partner need special accommodations, seek out adapted special needs classes. Many facilities are committed to providing all-access classes.
Spend quality time on the dance floor with your partner this Monday for a fulfilling and shared fitness experience.
Don't let anything stand in your way, Panthers!
Self-care doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. For some, it can mean reading a nice book or taking a relaxing bath. For others it can be doing some yoga or binge watching a favorite show for a couple hours.

This Monday, reach out to a counselor or medical professional for a fresh take on moving ahead! It’s important to find the support that works for you.
1-800-QUIT-NOW. The first line of help is a state quitline. According to research, quitline counseling can more than double a smoker’s chances of quitting. Toll-free quitlines put you in touch with a trained coach in your state who can provide immediate and free support and advice.
Talk to your doctor. There are treatments such as ni****ne replacement therapy that can lessen cravings, which doctors can recommend and prescribe. A skin patch, lozenges, gum, inhalers, and sprays may be the bridge between stress and success. Don’t overlook your medical resources.
Many smokers reach for their ci******es in times of stress; quitlines, physicians and therapists can offer different ways to handle the stress that can help you avoid smoking.
This Monday, find a professional who can personalize your quit by developing coping skills for triggers and cravings and creating strategies for mental wellness. They’re here to help you stay inspired to quit and stay quit!
1 in 3 people don't get enough sleep, so it's important to have a healthy plan to wind down and get a good night's sleep. Solutions include unplugging, deep, thoughtful breathing, guided meditation, self-care, and listening to The Everly Brothers' "All I Have to Do is Dream". These strategies can help reduce tiredness, forgetfulness, irritability, heart, concentration, and blood pressure. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Okinawa, Japan has one of the highest concentrations of centenarians — people who live to over one hundred years old — in the world. After studying this population, researchers found that, along with following a predominately plant-based diet and maintaining a strong sense of purpose and community, one of the most important factors that contributed to their longevity was… gardening.
But can gardening be one of the secrets to a long, healthy, happy life?
For aging and older populations, gardening provides a critical source of daily physical activity, so much so that the American Heart Association categorizes it as a good source of moderate exercise. Squatting, bending, pulling, watering, w**ding, digging, and mowing can help keep the muscles and joints active and engaged while helping improve strength and dexterity. A study from the University of Arkansas found that the low-impact movements associated with gardening helped women aged 50 and older improve their bone density and reduce their risk of osteoporosis.
And while gardening is far from an aerobic workout, it can help burn calories and lower body mass. Research from the University of Utah showed that people who participated in community gardening had lower odds of being overweight or obese. You can even make gardening more of a workout by increasing your range of motion or incorporating some anywhere exercises like the lunge and w**d or the planter’s squat into your planting routine.
In addition to physical health, gardening can be a source of immense joy and inner peace. Caring for and looking after plants gives us a sense of responsibility and satisfaction — as well as a time outdoors under the sun — while also connecting us to other living things and our food. This Monday, move it into the garden. Start small with a few potted plants, flowers, or herbs, and get growing!
If you’re having trouble falling asleep, consider scheduling in some time to destress before turning off the lights. Doing some deep breathing exercises can take your mind off your worries and get your head in the mood to relax and fall asleep.
