Gianna Slusher and Caitlin Reina received an official patent for their invention: a mounted thermographic imaging system for home use, capable of detecting medical issues like breast cancer. Slusher, a Ph.D. student in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, says, “As a woman in mechanical engineering, I have strived to use my education and research to contribute to efforts that benefit other women.”

Exciting news! 🌟 Elio Challita, a Georgia Tech alum, has been selected as a Schmidt Science Fellow. He joins a group of researchers focused on solving global challenges through interdisciplinary science. Elio is only the second person from Georgia Tech to receive this prestigious fellowship, which includes a $110,000 stipend per year.

Elio Challita (PhD 2023) is the second person from Georgia Tech ever to be named a Fellow of the Schmidt Science Fellows program, which provides a $110,000 stipend per year to postdoctoral scholars to solve the world’s most pressing issues.

A former member of the Bhamla Lab at ChBE, Challita is one of 32 early-career researchers in the 2024 cohort of Schmidt Science Fellows, joining a community of scientists and supporters who seek to drive sector-wide change by pursuing interdisciplinary research. The 2024 Fellows represent 17 nationalities nominated by 26 of the world’s leading institutions across North America, Europe, and Asia.

From Georgia Tech to NATO: Meet Joyce Kinsey, the trailblazing OMS Cybersecurity student securing an internship at NATO! 🌍🔒 Armed with an impressive resume and a desire to push her career to the next level, Joyce saw that NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command in Brunssum, Netherlands was looking for an intern to research user vulnerabilities in IT systems and cyber threat environments. After being accepted, the process took months to be finalized and, due to its global aspect, involved completing security clearances and immigration approvals.
