Dear all,

The past few weeks have demanded tremendous effort and growth from students, faculty members, and the world at large. We have all had to adapt, reconfigure, and relocate a sizable amount of our activities to new channels like Zoom. However, recent events surrounding the racist harassment of participants in a Zoom call for the Heman Sweatt Center for Black Males emphasize the importance of accountability and security as we make these transitions. Student Government would like to reiterate that The University of Texas at Austin is not and will never be tolerant of racism, irrespective of its perpetrator or recipient.

We personally reached out to the Sweatt Center to offer our full-fledged support and commitment moving forward. While investigations continue, we can all partake in eliminating racism by actively educating ourselves while acknowledging and addressing biases.

If you or someone you know, experience a racist attack of any kind, we encourage you to report the incident to UTPD or local authorities.

Best regards,

Camron Goodman, Student Body President
Amie Jean, Student Body Vice President
Anagha Kikkeri, Student Body President Elect
Winston Hung, Student Body Vice President Elect

Dear all,

Our hearts are with you during such a changing and uncertain time for you, your friends, and your family. We are amazed and proud of our fellow students for their bravery, resilience, and efforts in moving forward throughout these changes personally and academically.

While we are not officially sworn in as an executive alliance for the upcoming year and are amidst transitioning, we wanted to be transparent in our behind-the-scenes efforts to advocate for student issues alongside Camron and Amie, who have worked tirelessly all year for the student body. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate through this transition of what SG looks like during this time.

Regarding academic policies in light of the Faculty Council’s vote, we have seen amazing solidarity and response from students to inspire change during these times. As we transition, we also support the expansion of emergency funding for students and other areas of student support to minimize the detriment of these changes. We continue to support the Senate of College Councils, Natural Sciences Council, student initiatives like the Mutual Aid Collective, and countless other efforts towards not only academics, but resource sharing, relief efforts, and student advocacy.

As some may have already realized, we have delayed our Executive Board/PSAC application timeline because we understand that several academic and personal changes are occurring for everyone. With that being said, our application will open on Friday, April 3rd at 8:00 AM to allow you to adjust to online courses undisturbed. More details to come when the app is released.

Thank you for bearing with us as we adjust to this new reality. We are here for you as students and look forward to this upcoming year!

Cheers, and hook ‘em,

Anagha and Winston
