Across the street from APU’s East Campus sits one of the best hidden gems in all of Southern California: The Ministry of Peculiarities. Created by brothers Jon ’05 and Benjamin ’11 Berk, The Ministry is home to Hope End, a one-of-a-kind escape room that has captured the imagination of thousands. Since opening, The Ministry has received massive critical acclaim in the industry including being voted as the No. 5 escape room in the nation by a USA TODAY readers poll and being named to the Best of 2023 Escape Rooms by Morty.

“Receiving the industry awards has been affirming in what we hoped to create,” Jon said, “but what I really love is seeing how much fun people have as they accept our invitation to play. It’s great hearing them say they’ve been thinking about the experience for weeks afterward.”

Video editor Jordan Orme ’19 experienced massive success quickly after graduating from APU, editing music videos for major artists and creating a YouTube channel which has garnered more than 110 million views and more than 800,000 subscribers, but one day he realized he had been prioritizing the wrong things in life.

“I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit convict me that I had been living a life of idolatry. I had been so success oriented. I had put money and popularity first, instead of God,” Jordan said. “I knew I needed to repent. I realized that the only thing I’m going to take with me from this life is my relationship with Jesus. So I decided to turn my life around and try to live more like Jesus.”
