Amanda B. had never heard of Camp St. Vincent before she saw our recent news story on WJZ-TV. But when she saw the clips of our campers, she immediately knew she had to help.

“I saw the story and it really struck me. I honestly had never thought about something like that before and as soon as my brain comprehended what I was seeing, I knew I wanted to contribute. I can't fathom what your program means to the children and their families.

Seeing all the kids smiling and playing in their camp shirts – I was really moved. I have no doubt there are many children whose lives are forever changed because of Camp St. Vincent. I could go on and on! I read about the academic improvements the kids make on your website – it’s all so incredible! Thank you for the beautiful work of this program!”

Thank you, Amanda, and all of our wonderful Camp St. Vincent supporters! You make smiles like these happen.

Camp St. Vincent supports children battling homelessness through summer program 06/26/2024

Big thanks to WJZ-TV | CBS Baltimore for this story on Camp St. Vincent! ☀️⚽️🏊‍♀️

When you ask our campers what their favorite activity is, the most common answer is: swimming! We still urgently need new bathing suits (sizes children’s small to adult XL/2XL), as most of the children do not have their own suits. We also are in urgent need of snacks for our campers. To view our full wish-list, go to https://www.vincentbaltimore.org/needs/.

Our goal is to serve up to 200 children throughout the summer - and we can't do it without your support. As Daimen Poole, Camp St. Vincent Director said, "finding those kids who never get the light in a positive way and then shining that light bright enough to where they can see themselves" - that is what Camp St. Vincent is all about. ❤️

Camp St. Vincent supports children battling homelessness through summer program Summer is a time for kids to be kids, enjoying the outside, pools, and playgrounds. For children battling homelessness, these opportunities could be just out of reach, but one local organization is there to help bridge that gap.

This Father's Day, we want to share an inspiring story that embodies the strength, resilience, and unwavering love of one of the fathers we have the honor to support.

Jerome* faced a lifechanging loss when his wife suddenly passed away, leaving him to care for their four children. Unable to afford his home on his own, Jerome found himself with nowhere to go. Nowhere to go with four children, who were grappling with a new life without their Mom.

Single fathers experiencing homelessness face many unique challenges. Thankfully Jerome and his children found the stability they needed through our SVDP rapid rehousing program and were able to move into a beautiful new home.

Jerome's children, ranging in ages from 5 to 13, mean the world to him. He speaks of them with immense pride. After everything the family has been through, Jerome finds joy in watching his children explore and ride their bikes and scooters through Baltimore's Druid Hill Park.

"Being a single dad – it's not easy. It's my kids who keep me going. Without them, I don't know where I’d be. Because of them, I’ll keep holding on, that's for sure."

Jerome's twins, now thriving in school, previously attended our Head Start programs. Throughout his family's journey, Jerome has been supported by dedicated SVDP staff, who not only provided guidance in securing permanent supportive housing, but also in navigating the challenges of single parenting.

Unfortunately, there are not many options for single dads when it comes to finding shelters that accommodate families. Families often come to us with nothing - nothing but each other. Which is why your support is so important to the programs and services of SVDP. Your giving keeps families together.

This Father's Day, you can celebrate the dad or father figure in your life by donating to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore. When you make an online Father's Day donation, an email will be sent to notify him of your thoughtful gesture and the important work your gift supports.

When you donate to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore this Father's Day, you are doubling the love. You get to honor that special father figure in your life - while supporting the loving dads in our programs, like Jerome. Donate in Dad's honor: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/NTkfdQ?vid=163cc5

Children experiencing homelessness, like David, need your help more than ever. Your support will have a meaningful impact on vulnerable children who need the extra love and positive influence that Camp St. Vincent provides at a time of crisis.

Crisis, like what eight-year-old David and his mom Brittany* had been experiencing. For over a year, they lived an unstable and uncertain life, spending their evenings with different family members and friends.

David, like many children who are experiencing homelessness, struggled with his emotions, and had become depressed and withdrawn.

It started when Brittany lost her job. Recently divorced and suddenly without a steady income, she struggled to pay rent, car payments, and other bills. Eventually, she fell too far behind and was evicted from her apartment. Moving constantly from relatives to friends, couch to couch, was taking a toll on her, and especially David.

Thankfully Brittany and David were referred to Hannah More, one of our emergency shelters for homeless families located in Baltimore County. Brittany started to focus on finding a new job and permanent housing, but she still worried about David. With summer steadily approaching, David was very concerned about what he would do when school let out.

Most children are looking forward to the end of school and having the summertime to play in their neighborhood, attend camp, go on a vacation, or swim at a nearby pool. But for children experiencing homelessness, like David, the thought of summer break can bring great anxiety, loneliness, and sadness.

Without your support, children like David will have nowhere to go this summer. By making your gift today, you can ensure we are able to serve all eligible children at this year's camp.

Soon after arriving at Hannah More, Brittany learned about Camp St. Vincent. Camp St. Vincent offers a specialized social-emotional curriculum that helps children develop coping mechanisms and social skills that lessen the impact of being homeless. Because every child at Camp St. Vincent is experiencing homelessness, they begin to understand they are not alone and build relationships with other children in similar situations.

Your support is critical in allowing us to accept over 200 children to participate in camp this summer. You can help us provide eight weeks of swimming, field trips, arts, music, theater, sports, games, and nature exploration to children experiencing homelessness.

Camp starts June 17th! Please give today so that we know how many children can attend camp this summer: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/Gw-7Sw?vid=zq3dz

Our Good Samaritan monthly donors provide a baseline budget for us to count on. Without this regular, predictable revenue, we couldn't reach as many or do as much. That would mean more people in Baltimore without a roof over their head, and more children going to bed hungry each night. As a Good Samaritan monthly donor, you will provide a critical lifeline of consistent support for those suffering from the impacts of poverty in our community.

Monthly giving is a convenient way to support our mission, and you can tailor the amount of your gift to suit your monthly budget. Your support enables us to provide shelter, housing, meals, and child and family services to thousands in our region. Please become a Good Samaritan monthly donor today, and help us reach more of our neighbors in need: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/xcYW8A?vid=zm7i6

We are pleased to announce that the 18th Annual Empty Bowls Family Event and the inaugural Candlelight and Clay raised over $186,000 for the programs and services of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore! 🎉

This year was extra special, as we added the new Candlelight and Clay event to the weekend’s festivities. Between the two events, nearly 1,000 guests were in attendance, enjoying unlimited bowl-friendly cuisine from over twenty area restaurants, while taking in a variety of fun and engaging performances and activities. 🎷

In keeping with tradition, everyone went home with a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl, which serves as a reminder of the hunger that exists in our community. Our thanks to the local community organizations, businesses, churches, and schools who hand-painted over 1,000 bowls for our guests, as well as our many volunteers who assisted with both events.

Empty Bowls would not be possible without the support of our great sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor, Whiting-Turner Contracting HQ and our media partner, WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore. Many thanks to all of our corporate sponsors as well as the restaurant sponsors who provided donated food for the events. 🥣

We would like to give a tremendous thank you to everyone who came out in support of Empty Bowls, along with those who donated this year – we could not have done it without you! Your support allows us to serve those suffering from hunger, homelessness, and poverty with not only food, but also an array of services to help them gain the skills, resources, and opportunities to achieve their full potential and, most importantly, to have hope. 💙

We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s events, scheduled for April 11 and 12, 2025! If you attended Candlelight and Clay and/or the Empty Bowls Family Event, please take a moment to complete our survey, as we'd love your feedback!

April 21 to 27 is National Volunteer Week and St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore is pleased to honor one of the best, Mr. Bill!

Mr. Bill was one of the more than 100 amazing volunteers at this past weekend’s Candlelight & Clay and Empty Bowls Family Event. He worked at BOTH events and his cheerful attitude and great salesmanship made the silent auction bids go high and the soup and food flowing to the attendees. The Silent Auction netted over $2,500 and over 800 people were served between the two events.

Bill retired from his career 18 years ago, but the word retirement is not in his vocabulary. He also volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) , Gilchrist Cares , B&O Railroad Museum and Roberta's House . Thank you, Mr. Bill for supporting and our community.

The Herd is one of SVDP's regular volunteer groups. They formed more than 20 years ago to help make a difference in their community and chose serving breakfast on Sunday mornings at Sarah's Hope as one of their volunteer activities. Every first and third Sunday of the month the group of friends and families comes together to cook and serve breakfast to the families at Sarah's Hope. The clients enjoy not only the food but also the comradery they share. Thank you to all the 60-plus Herd members for their support -- you are impacting lives beyond the meals.
