Dr. Renee M. Johnson, PhD, MPH is an Associate Professor & Vice Chair for DEI in the Department of Mental Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research addresses substance use, overdose prevention, injury and violence, adolescent/emerging adult health, and health disparities.

Dr. Lorraine Dean, ScD is an Associate Professor in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. As a social epidemiologist, her work focuses on privilege and health, including social (racism, discrimination, social capital) and economic (consumer credit, socioeconomic position) determinants of disparities in cancer and HIV. She has led several studies as PI of NIH and Center for AIDS Research grants. She holds a doctorate from Harvard School of Public Health and was a J. William Fulbright program awardee to Venezuela.

Dr. Aisha Dickerson, PhD, MSPH is an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is an environmental neuroepidemiologist with primary research interests in environmental risk factors for neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, disparities in assessment and service provision, and environmental justice issues in underserved communities.

Dr. Lisa Cooper, MD, MPH is a Bloomberg Distinguised Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is also the James F. Fries Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and a core faculty member in the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research, and she holds a joint appointment in the School of Nursing. She is a general internist, social epidemiologist, and health services researcher. Dr. Cooper conducts community-engaged research, identifying behavioral and organizational programs for health professionals, community health workers, and patients, that alleviate health disparities. She then advocates with health system and public health leaders and policymakers to translate these programs into practice and policy changes that advance health equity.

Dr Terrinieka W. Powell, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Inclusion, Diversity, Anti-Racism and Equity in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). After earning her BA in Psychology from Williams College, she earned her MA and PhD from DePaul University in Community Psychology. She spent two years as a Kellogg Health Scholars Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan School of Public Health before joining the faculty JHSPH.

Dr. Powell leads the B Lab (www.resarchbypowell.com), a Baltimore-based research team helping to create a world where all youth are safe, healthy, hopeful, and connected. Partnerships with churches, schools, libraries, families, and community-based organizations are a cornerstone of her research. She has collaborated with institutions across several states to prevent substance use and sexual risk-taking among young people. With partners, she creates interventions that are sustainable and consider the social contexts of youth and families. Her goal is to ensure that youth, especially those affected by trauma, have multiple pathways to achieve optimal health.

Dr. Avonne Connor, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a joint appointment in Oncology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a cancer epidemiologist, focused on breast cancer in women and cancer health disparities research. Her research specifically focuses on the roles of modifiable lifestyle factors, biological factors, and social inequities in the associations with cancer outcomes. She identifies women at risk of breast cancer and poor health outcomes after breast cancer utilizing epidemiologic methods and population-based data sources.

Wellness Week starts tomorrow!!!! Join us for all these events from painting sessions, meditation, yoga, boba giveaways and so much more!!!

Prizes will be raffled daily. To be selected to win a raffle prize, make sure to sign up for the raffle on Hopkins Groups. These will be open daily from 12-3 pm, and prizes will be given away later the same day during one of the events. Prizes include candles from KSM, puzzles from the Walters Art Museum, bundles from Hons Honey, and various items from Made in Baltimore!! All raffle prizes are from local brands!

We welcome our New Executive Member, Ayesha Siddiqua, the new Co-VP of Communications & External Affairs.

Ayesha was born and raised in Bangladesh, moved to the US for her undergraduate career which is where she discovered her interests in public mental health.

She aims to work with the immigrant communities and understand the various influences on their mental health.

Outside of school, she loves traveling, photography , painting, and exploring new places (cafes, restaurants) &
open to suggestions for fun places around Baltimore.

Our Executive Team feature of the day is Stanley Zheng, the Student Body President! ✨

Stanley is a second-year MHA student who has a strong passion for facilitating growth within team environments, advocating for others, and creating positive, sustainable changes for our Bloomberg community.

Stanley enjoys photography, traveling, grabbing coffee, and going for walks and runs in the Fell’s Point/Canton area.
He is on the search for the world’s best bubble tea, so please let him know if you have any recommendations!

Meet our Executive feature of the day, Prachi Agrawal, the Co-VP of Social and Cultural Affairs.

Prachi is a full-time MPH student who is passionate about organizing theme-based networking and cultural events and loves hosting parties.

A doctor by profession, she is also formally trained in “Kathak”, an Indian Classical Dance form, and loves singing and playing the piano.

You might find her dancing her way around Baltimore City as it’s usually difficult to find her anywhere indoors on the weekends !

Meet Alan Kim, Co-President, an Ex-officio of the Student Assembly.

Alan enjoys being able to connect with the experts and researchers that he gets to collaborate with.

When he’s not networking, he enjoys acrylic painting, though he believes his landscapes still need a lot of work.

Alan is planning some day-hikes, but for now is focused on eating his way through all of Baltimore’s amazing local spots!

He is a ScM student in BMB department and also a co-chair of his department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Co-President of the Mental Health Grad Network!

Michael enjoys playing the piano, cooking, photography.

Our Executive feature of the day is Janine Elya,an MSPH student studying Global Disease Epidemiology and Control within the International Health Department.

Prior to coming to Hopkins, she worked as a bench scientist researching cancer and rare disease therapeutics in the biotech industry for five years. Her public health interests include humanitarian health, tropical medicine, and equitable access to innovative health technologies.

Some of her favorite pastimes include hiking, watching stand-up comedy specials, obsessing over Drag Race, and putting together elaborate cheese boards to share with friends.

Grant has keen interest in occupational health, particularly among agricultural workers, and children’s environmental health.

He likes to run, and hopes to do the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in DC this spring!

A fun fact about him:
He has spent extended time abroad living and studying in Costa Rica and Mexico.

Meet the Executive feature of the day, Prabhjeet Singh, Co-VP of Professional development & Academic Honours.

He is an MSPH student in Health Systems division of the International Health Department. He is a dentist by training who is passionate about health financing, management, health economics, and health equity.

He loves to be outdoors from hiking, to exploring new restaurants and bars when not binge-watching Netflix.

He loves playing tennis and badminton and is always down to meet new people to play with.

As an MPH student, Hannah is interested in the intersection of environmental health, policy and communications. Prior to JHU, she worked in the HIV space.

When she’s not doing school work, you can find her watching rugby, obsessing over one day owning a pet pig, and reading romance novels.
