The start of the new year is a great time to look at your current habits. Are there any habits you currently have that can be tweaked, even just a little bit, to turn them into healthy habits? We’re happy to share at least four healthy habits you can begin today to ensure your 2024 is off to a great start!

1. Stop hitting snooze. Try placing your phone or alarm clock on the other side of the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. This gives you more time to enjoy your morning routine and ease into the day, possibly even finding extra time for a visit to the Y!

2. Skip the sugar. If you’re cutting out sugary beverages but are missing the flavor, try adding fruit to your water. This adds a hint of flavor without any added sugar. Strawberries, lemons and cucumbers are just some examples of flavorful additions – get creative!

3. Find new moves. If you’re starting to dread your workouts, then maybe it’s time to switch them up! The YMCA of the Capital Area has so many group exercise classes for you to choose from. We invite you to try a format you’ve never tried before – you may just find your new favorite and reignite your passion for exercise!

4. No nightly scrolling. It may be one of the hardest habits to break – lying in bed, the comfort of the blue glow on your face as you scroll mindlessly through the internet. Instead, choose nighttime activities that promote sleep, like practicing meditation or relaxation techniques. You will thank yourself in the morning!

Let us help you turn information into inspiration. Receive three EVOLT 360 scans when you join our January challenge now: ymcabr.org/evolt

Some of the activities that Nancy has enjoyed the most at the Y are the aquatic group exercise classes, chair yoga, line dancing, and the light and low classes.

The Y has impacted Nancy's life by helping her to meet a lot of new, friendly people.
