Over the summer, we had the pleasure to film the Mayor's Youth Workforce Experience (MYWE). Here is what the program meant to the scholars in their own words.

MYWE is an 8-week internship and enrichment program that provides work experience and mentorship to youth in Baton Rouge during the summer. It is a partnership between the office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, Big Buddy Program, EmployBR, and Safe Hopeful Healthy Baton Rouge.

Educators are Essential! Big Buddy partnered with Cox to celebrate the incredible educators at our partner schools, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, Glen Oaks Middle Magnet, Progress Elementary, and Highland Elementary. Each member of the school staff received a goodie bag with lunch from Jason's Deli, and other goodies from our partners Community Coffee, Benny's Car Wash & Oil Change, and of course, an apple for the teacher from Capitol City Produce.

May 2, 2024 - Tonight Big Buddy managers attended a dinner on the Southern campus prepared by a group of Big Buddy youth from Northdale Academy. Big Buddy Program partnered with the SU Ag Center on an afterschool program teaching the youth about nutrition, and cooking skills. The 3-course meal began with a Buffalo chicken dip, the main course was incredible lettuce wraps stuffed with grilled shrimp and ground turkey, and we finished with a mini fruit pizza. The youth prepared everything, including the tortilla chips, themselves. They even gave us the recipes. We are definitely gonna try them at home. Of course, the best part was seeing the pride and sense of accomplishment on the faces of our young scholars!
