Please Welcome the new DEI Task Force Chair Porsche Uche!

Porsche Uche, a proud native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner with a deep-seated passion for community philanthropy. As an HBCU graduate of Southern University, Porsche earned her Bachelor’s degree, where she was honored with the Rita E. Miller Scholarship from the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) for her academic excellence and community philanthropy. She furthered her education by completing her Master’s degree, receiving the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) scholarship for outstanding contributions in both academic and community settings. In her role as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Baton Rouge, Porsche has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to healthcare, earning the Southern University School of Nursing Advanced Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award in 2023. She was also nominated for the Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year Award by the Louisiana State Nursing Association. Currently, Porsche is advancing her expertise as a doctoral student at the University of South Alabama. Porsche is deeply committed to mentoring aspiring nursing students, inspiring them with the belief that “nothing is impossible, the word itself says, I'm possible.” Her dedication extends to active participation with numerous volunteer service events, where she has consistently contributed her time and skills to support families, health initiatives, local charities, mentoring and literacy programs. She actively engages with organizations such as the Junior League of Baton Rouge, the Top Ladies of Distinction Nonpareil Chapter, and the Psi Phi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority. Through these affiliations, Porsche works to enhance and uplift the Baton Rouge community, focusing on its youth, adults, and senior citizens. Looking ahead, Porsche aims to continue her leadership and professional development while advocating for families and transforming the lives of those in under-resourced and underprivileged communities. Outside of her professional pursuits, Porsche is a loving wife to Ifeanyi Uche, Ph.D., and a devoted mother to two sons. She values quiet moments for reflection, writing, and reading, and enjoys spending time at the beach, shopping, and creating cherished family memories.

Please Welcome Tamara Manns the New Shreveport District President

Tamara Manns MSN, RN, CCRN-Pediatrics, joined the nursing faculty at Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2021. While teaching full time, Ms. Manns also works per diem in the emergency department of a local Shreveport hospital. Ms. Manns is also pursuing her SANE certification in adults and pediatrics, while working toward her PhD in Nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler.

Ms. Manns completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 at the University of Toledo, Toledo Ohio, and then earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University New Orleans in 2021 with a focus on nursing education. Ms. Manns has a vast clinical background including, Med/Surg, step-down, ED, NICU/Nursery, but holds a majority of experience in Pediatric ICU.

Ms. Manns serves as a faculty advisor to the Shreveport Student Nurses Association and belongs to multiple organizations including Shreveport District Nurses Association (President), Sigma Theta Tau: Beta Chi Chapter (Webpage Manager), Louisiana State Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association, and The Society of Pediatric Nurses.

As the new president of SDNA, Ms. Manns encourages nurses to RISE UP! Nurses must be empowered to advocate for their profession, to lead the change they seek, and support advancement of safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of nursing practice!
