DILLON’s foster says he was clearly loved in his past life before ending up homeless. He is very affectionate & loves to sit on your lap but won’t hop on unless invited. His foster says he sits in the chair next to her and stares at her until invited, then he happily hops onto her lap and snuggles.❤️ He knows some commands, like “stay.” Dillon does great with the other dogs in his foster home. He enjoys playing outside, too. This little man is approximately 2 yrs old so fully grown at 16 lb. & is heartworm negative. Dillon will be neutered & microchipped prior to going home with an adopter. We’d be so happy to see this little boy loved in a wonderful forever home. Come by The Dog Adoption House to meet Dillon. Apply to adopt in person.

Red hair and a hand-me-down toy? You must be a Weasley. Nope, this is POTTER ⚡️

Potter is a riddikulus-ly handsome 4 yr, 53lb boy who loves everyone he meets (no discrimination against muggles) and hasn’t had one complaint in any of the foster homes he’s been in. Potter is a toy addict, you rarely find him without one (or a stash); however, he does very well sharing them with both people and other dogs.

At times Potter isn’t the best at hiding his wizardly ways and attempts to travel 9 3/4 style through solid surfaces🚂 We haven’t witnessed him be successful yet, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been 🤫

⚡️Good with dogs
⚡️Approved for group play at Camp Bow Wow
⚡️Good with cats
⚡️Good with children
⚡️House-trained
⚡️Neutered

Come by The Dog Adoption House to meet this magical boy! Apply to adopt in person.

Zest up your life with 🍋WALKER🍋 a rare lemon beagle boy — tan on white rather than the more commonly seen brown, black, and white tricolor coat.

Walker is the perfect size fully grown at 25 lbs and is approximately 5 years old. Walker’s fosters describe him as a quiet, mellow guy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and children. Walker enjoys an outdoor ’sniffari’, but is not obsessed with following his nose like some scent hounds can be and is content to lay comfortably by your side.

Walker can be seen daily at The Adoption House. Apply to adopt in person!

Looking for your very own Ghostface👻 this HalloWEENIE🎃? DRAKIE will only make you SCREAM with delight 😱

Drakie weighs 11 lbs and is approximately 10 years old. Don’t let his age fool you, he acts much younger and still has plenty of love to give. He loves the company of his human and enjoys sleeping on his bed right next to hers and following her around throughout the day.
Drakie does well with the other small dogs and cat in his foster home; however, he would also be content as the only animal in the home.

Drakie is housetrained, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Come by and meet him today! Apply to adopt in person.

Zeke loves being with his people/person. He's also approved for group play at Camp Bow Wow, but Zeke would do best as an only dog as he doesn't like to share his toys or food. He'd also do best in a home with older children only. Come by The Dog Adoption House to meet this sweet, handsome boy! Apply to adopt in person.

Could BILLIE make you happier than ever? 🤩 This girl spent most of her life in a local shelter and needs someone who is willing to give her the time she needs to trust people. Billie is no stranger to any dog she meets and really opens up when playing with other dogs. That being said, she would do best in a home with at least one other dog to help build her confidence. Billie enjoys sneaking kisses when she thinks you aren’t paying attention and is learning snuggling with a human can actually be quite nice 💕

One day at The Adoption House before opening, Billie was the only dog there and able to roam freely with staff. It was storming and she was too scared to go outside to potty. She really had to go, but felt so bad making a mess inside that she decided to lay down napkins before going to help make clean up easier (see photo if you don’t believe it). FOTA staff have been around many dogs, but this was a first and worth sharing how smart she is! **Billie has never had any other accident in her foster home or in her kennel at The Adoption House.

Billie is approximately 1 yr. and fully grown at her current 36lbs. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. Come by and meet her today!

If you are interested in adopting any of our beautiful pups and currently own a dog, bring your vet records with you to expedite your application process 📝

Someone is missing out on a stellar best friend, SHAY. This dog checks all the boxes: Good with dogs (Camp Bow Wow approved for group play too), good with cats, & good with kids. She is also housetrained, spayed, & microchipped. Shay loves to be with her person/people & is a cuddle bug. She’s just a sweet, well behaved, loving girl. She is 2 yr., 42 lb. See videos of Shay in the comments. Come by The Dog Adoption House to meet her, & apply to adopt in person.

CAROLINE is a staff favorite & has been an easy keeper in her foster homes. She is all about her person/people & is very cuddly & sweet. She is low & stocky, an adorable combination. Caroline is great with cats but particular about her canine friends. She does best with male dogs who will be submissive to this diva! Once that is established, all is well! She is 4 yr., 47 lb. Caroline is housetrained, spayed, & microchipped. She has just completed heartworm treatment, & we are hopeful that she will test negative when next tested. Come by The Dog Adoption House to meet sweet Caroline! Apply to adopt in person.

Our Story

Our mission is to rescue, re-home, or otherwise save as many dogs and puppies as possible from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Since 2010, FOTA has found forever homes for more than 5500 animals from the EBR Parish shelter, other surrounding shelters and through the FASS program.

Founded by Paula Schoen, the Dog Adoption House was a dream of FOTA. We noticed such a difference in the dogs when removed from the shelter that we wanted to open a house where an animal can show its true personality. In June, 2013, our dream came true with a grant from the Pennington Family Foundation. The house is open daily with volunteers helping us socialize the dogs. We have between 25-30 dogs at the house daily, ranging in size from small to medium to large with each group having their own play yard. The dogs are exercised hourly and given lots of love and attention. We think of the house as a doggie daycare. The dogs come to play for the day and then go back to their foster families or back to the shelter after a fun day away.
