Bloomington Blue Zones Initiative — SonderGlow Health Coaching Last year, while launching this new career in holistic health coaching I had an inspirational “ping” that came about. One of the most inspiring parts of my training at IIN was a piece about a National Geographic researcher named Dan Buettner. He had developed this concept and a whole slew of boo...

What is Nagomi? (And How it Can Help You Live a Happier, Healthier, More Balanced Life) - Blue Zones 12/20/2023

I love what I have learned so far on the topic of purpose and the concept of Ikigai in Okinawa from the Blue Zones. I am currently working on workshops in 2024 both online and in person here in Bloomington. The creative wheels are turning and I am so excited to connect with others on this topic in months to come!

What's new with me!

I’m all about the Blue Zones movement. I actually have been for years after learning about Dan Buettner during my Institute for Integrative Nutrition health coach training.

Cynthia Schultz and I are working on creative and fun ways to bring the Blue Zones mission to Bloomington♥️

Can’t wait to share!

I found this definition in the Coaching Psychology Manual when I was studying for my board exam. Building a practice of self-care can be tricky because of so many factors of our busy life yet so, so important to live a life of thriving- not just surviving.

Try to do one thing for yourself today that is just for you. You could start with a twenty minute walk, trip to the book store or library to sit in quiet with a new book, watching your favorite show that brings a feeling of inspiration or relaxation, etc. Something that is just for you that you know is positive for your body and soul🤍 Happy Sunday!

The Benefits of Short Workouts: Making the Most of Your Busy Schedule 08/20/2023

The Benefits of Short Workouts: Making the Most of Your Busy Schedule When it comes to exercise, finding time is often cited as the most significant barrier. With all other obligations taking precedence, carving out upwards of an hour during the day oftentimes just isn’t feasible. It’s recommended that adults get two and a half hours (150 minutes) of moderate acti...

My new creative space aka kitchen should be finished very soon! 🥰 Complete with a custom cookbook book shelve, this was an idea that had and I think it’s one of the sweetest things someone has ever done for me. I LOVE my book collection, especially my cookbooks thank you, Steph. I would have never thought of this!

I am so excited. I plan on hosting some superfood inspired and brain healthy cooking workshops here next spring. Can’t wait to share and connect in a space I love♥️

Increasing whole foods and crowding out ultra-processed foods is a great way to start offering your body nourishment. Ultra-processed, packaged foods often have ingredients that disrupt our microbiome causing health related issues like chronic inflammation, metabolic health issues and more. Starting to include more fresh and appropriately cooked veggies, while crowding out the ultra processed stuff is a good way to slowly integrate a more nourishing way of eating.

Creative starting points:

1. Make meal prep fun. Set aside alone time (or include your family!) create a list of things that you would like to prep for the week. Include your favorite music or a podcast. Make this time about connecting with yourself (or others) in an attempt to create nourishment for your body.
2. Set an intention. Journaling is a great way to connect to an intention. Write down an intention each morning or night before and do your best to follow through (and if you don’t then be forgiving and try tomorrow♥️) you can do this!
3. Educate yourself. One of the most important steps to creating change is learning. There are so many great books and podcasts that educate us on the healing powers of vegetables. Lifelong learning is a great longevity tool!
4. Make them tasty. Duh, I know! Choose spices that you know you love when cooking. Create dips for your fresh veggies to enhance the experience. Try out premade dips from local places that are more fresh than packaged dips.
5. Intrinsic motivation. What? Explore YOUR true “why”. Why are you exploring ways to nourish your body through adding more whole foods? What do you know about your body? Studies show that intrinsic motivation offers more long term positive affects on health vs extrinsic ( diet trends, products on a shelf, other people’s opinion) So start exploring!

Meal prep challenge. This one I do every few weeks in an effort to clean out my fridge, reduce waste, and to prepare for my busy week. I get really frustrated when produce goes to waste. Pair these with some clean proteins and you have an easy meal.

Also- I get my full kitchen back very soon. I am excited to make more of these🥬🌶️🥒 This one was done in our efficiency apartment where my mom lives part of the time. I only have about two feet of counter space in there. Quite the challenge lately!

Health Coaches: What They Do — and How They Can Help You 08/13/2023

Sunday morning inspiration✨

This has been a really difficult skill for myself and some of my clients to harness. Understanding your own unique needs for down time, saying “no” and setting boundaries, designing structure that allows for time to protect your energy, realizing (for some) that even though you are an extrovert you still need alone time…….

These are just a few areas that can be a focus to explore.

Today my focus is to find two hours in nature to reconnect with my “calm” before starting the work week. How about you?

08/12/2023

Met a little friend as I walked into work this morning♥️

Happy Saturday everyone!

Mid-day motivation✨

Last week I tried some new recipes for pickling, using local honey rather than sugar and the beets are perfectly sweet! I started lowering my sugar intake a few years ago and it had pretty major positive effects on my health. Especially my mood, brain fog and and inflammatory issues (painful joints and skin problems) Now I am back at it, feeling better and mostly sweeten with local honey and monk fruit sweetener. Experimenting with new recipes is part of the fun. I just can’t wait to get my full sized kitchen back, hopefully in a week or two!

Eating clean is not easy, it really does take a lifestyle shift. My focus with food is eating for nourishment, energy, and vitality. This takes learning, taking it slow, noticing how your body responds and progress over perfection for long term benefits.

It feels good to feel good🌟

Huge thank you to everyone that made it to my talk last night on 🧠 health and my love for the book The End of Alzheimer’s. I feel loved by friends and inspired by the new connections made.

Alzheimer’s disease comes with a stigma that can instill shame and fear for those that experience it (to those living with the disease and those supporting loved ones) and connection on this topic hopefully helps- at least in a small way. Learning how to support and nourish your brain can start at any age and can have lasting effects. So much more to come on this topic that I am so passionate about!

Thank you Morgenstern Books for offering such an inspiring place for people to connect, learn and grow. And to just love books❤️

Please join me tomorrow at Morgenstern Books at 6:30 pm. The book The End of Alzheimer’s has restored hope for me on a very personal level. I would love to connect with others on the topic of the stigma that surrounds brain health and Alzheimer’s, new treatment options, as well as resources on where to start in caring about your brain health at any age.

Monday morning mindfulness reminder. A walk, journaling, breath work, time with a friend that is helpful in a grounding way….

How do you return to mindful when your mind and schedule is a little “too full”?

06/22/2023

Next Thursday 6/29 from 6:30 to 7:30 at Morgenstern Books 🧠

The End of Alzheimer’s is a book that has given me hope and inspired me to enroll in Bredesen’s ReCode 2.0 training with Apollo Health. Please join me for an engaging look at new possibilities in Alzheimer’s prevention and in some cases reversal of symptoms.
