We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Ohioans to Stop Executions at CCDA - Christian Community Development Association to discuss why the death penalty should be ended and how people of faith can help join the cause.

Today, we joined colleagues in Oklahoma at an interim study hearing on the question of whether to enact a moratorium on ex*****ons. Our answer is yes.

Former OK Dept of Corrections Director Justin Jones gave lawmakers a glimpse of the trauma of overseeing ex*****ons.

“I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes,” he said. "I guarantee you’re going to have another botched ex*****on."

Herman Lindsey, the 135th person to be exonerated from death row, reminded lawmakers that “the system is too broken to continue.”

Speaking in support of a moratorium, Adam Luck said his role in voting on life or death while on the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board shaped his view. "The time has come for Oklahoma legislators to reckon with the injustices inherent in our state’s death penalty."

Special thanks to our national and state leaders Demetrius Minor Nan Tolson Brett Farley, Jasmine Woodson and our panel moderator Joia Erin for facilitating such a great conversation centered on messaging to conservatives!

This morning, Demetrius Minor stood alongside our partners at Ohioans to Stop Executions in the OH Statehouse to announce the introduction of the House bill to repeal the death penalty.

This is a historic day for Ohio! This bill acts as a companion to SB101, which is moving in the state senate. Momentum toward the end of the death penalty continues.

As Ohio reckons with other life issues this fall, Republican leaders recognize that the death penalty is part of that conversation. It's time to end this costly government program that fails to protect families, puts innocent lives at risk, and only causes more anguish.
