We loved having Effie Brown speak last week at our Telethon about her experiences as a filmmaker and with the BTFC. As Black storytellers/filmmakers, we are part of a community, but we are also all individually unique! How beautiful is that!
Each of our voices are valuable in this world, so don't be afraid to use it!
Show your support today that a world with consistent Black stories in it matters!

Their Stories, Your Impact.
Writer/Director/Actress Latasha Mercer joined the BTFC with a goal to sell an original pilot to a major network or studio. She honed her script in our writers workshops, and was selected as one of 14 talented mid-level film and series writers to participate in pipeline partnership with Netflix. She was awarded her first script development deal, where she will have the opportunity to work with Netflix executives and go through a Showrunner training lab. This career changing experience gave Latasha a shot she’s been working so hard for, and set her on the path to a Showrunner, the most senior writer role in television. Only 4% of Showrunners in Hollywood are Black, so this is an impactful step for the BTFC towards seeing our vision for greater parity in the film and television production industries become reality.
Come hear stories of hope and inspiration like Latasha's. You'll feel when you tune into our Giving Tuesday Love Letter Telethon.
It's 4 days away so hurry and register via the link https://bit.ly/49OjDTF.
Your Contribution, Their Transformation
Dolapo Olorode joined the BTFC and gave $1K. Her donation enabled the BTFC to provide vital micro-grants to our Producers Fellows who lacked the personal resources to pay the submission fees to submit their completed projects to film festivals across the world. Screening in key film festivals is a crucial factor in providing mid-career Black Creatives the industry recognition and prestige to sway getting a Yes for that next level opportunity. This funding enabled each producer to double their number of submissions, and multiplied the success of their festival runs. The films screened at prestigious global and national film festivals including Urbanworld Film Festival, ABFF Film Festival, Pan-African Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival: Diversity in Film, and the Micheaux Film Festival. One film was an ABFF HBO Short Film Competition Finalist, and another was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
We thank Dolapo aka for showing her love to the BTFC with financial support. This is a powerful example of the impact of your donations. Your contributions today will fund the transformation of our members.

Since our founding over 8 years ago, the BTFC has actively worked to amplify Black voices and stories in film and TV. We love that the heart of our stories is the strength of our community, and to honor that year we are hosting our inaugural “Love Letter to the BTFC Telethon” on Giving Tuesday!
Yes, you heard right - a telethon!
Remember watching the Jerry Lewis Telethon for MDA back in the day? Are we dating ourselves? Today it’s hosted by Kevin Hart and it’s a fun time watching stars raise money for a great cause.
Our version of the telethon will be online and the stars will be YOU!
It will be a time to spotlight all of our amazing members, showcase the awesome work you are creating in partnership with the BTFC, and raise money to fund our work! Our goal is to raise $25K from the telethon and we are grateful to our BTFC Board Members matching every dollar we raise. When you give on Giving Tuesday, your impact is doubled!
Why should you tune in on November 28th at 9am PST??

“Don’t let anything stop you from creating.”
-BTFC MAKER member Sydney Denise
It was in this spirit that the BTFC community was built. Despite constantly being told you need more experience or you need more connections or you need more money by mainstream Hollywood, our members didn't let that stop them from making their projects and telling their stories.
Why? Imagine a world where the screen echoes a silence, a blank space where the rich stories of our community should be. It's a world less colorful, less vibrant, less true.
That's the scene we're here to prevent. Your support isn't just about keeping the lights on; it's about ensuring that every hue of our diverse experiences is seen and heard.
Our community is stronger when we stand together. Support our work by giving to the BTFC this year on Giving Tuesday!

Our BTFC team has been moving and grooving for the past few weeks cooking up a fun run of show for our Giving Tuesday Telethon happening in 6 days!
We've clocked 8 group zoom calls, six drafts of fundraising email copy and a ton planning hours! But even if it takes 1000 hours we are still smiling and grateful, for the opportunity to put this awesome telethon together, because it's something we all care so deeply about.
So whether you're almost safely to your destination, just logging off your computer at home, or getting down in the kitchen cooking your last sweet potato pie, we hope you will take a moment to say a short word of thanks on our behalf for this amazing teams hard work.
We are planning a whole day of fun, laughter, and inspiration, so we hope you will join us on Giving Tuesday to experience it all. The Movement Doesn’t Happen Without You.

Let's make an impact together!
In our newsletter last week, reminds us to "believe in the power of small things". Sometimes our goals can feel overwhelming because as creatives we usually dream big. But remember, very seldom in life is success actualized through some ‘grand plan’ or single step. It's a process, usually an amalgamation of small steps and doing the little things that eventually lead to the bigger things.
And here’s a trick: If your goal feels overwhelming, find a smaller unit of action. Examine how the idea of taking that step makes you feel. If you still feel worried, break it down further. If the idea of writing a book seems daunting then start by researching book formats, or buying a journal to write the first sentence of your first paragraph. No matter how small the step, it’s progress.
