is back again! The 5th running of the Rough Riders Memorial 5k is coming up!
This year we are excited to work with our local deployed unit to run, walk, or ruck both here and in Kosovo at the same time! All funds raised, as always, help us support our local community, our hometown heroes, and their families. Let's make this FIFTH YEAR a huge success. Senior Vice Commander Hudson laid flowers at the memorial of PVT Renis Barrett, our Post's namesake.
Every year, our Post ensures the memory and legacy of PVT Barrett lives on through visits and maintenance of this piece of history.
PVT Barrett's headstone is located here in Calhoun at the Fain Cemetery.

Coming to a VFW near you! Help us celebrate 78 years on April 6th with a great, free family event here at the Post! Food and drinks sold by vendors, lives animals, a magical appearance from Magical Adventure with Michael Frisbee, bounce houses from Jump House Rentals, raffles, live music, and an Easter egg hunt for all ages.
Come out and support your favorite VFW as we continue into our 78th year!
Oh, and this is your post 😃 also, don't forget about the Saint Patrick's Dinner next month!

Private Service For Capt. Larry Taylor Will Be Wednesday; Crowds Invited To Line Procession Route Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Larry Taylor will be laid to rest on Wednesday, beginning with a closed Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center for family, invited guests and dignitaries.

Saturday, December 30th, is the monthly Veterans Breakfast! From 8-10am, as always, bring the family out for a free breakfast for our local Vets.
Sunday, December 31st, BINGO is back! Doors open at 2pm, calling starts right at 3pm. Free coverall for all paying participants in spirit of New Year's Eve!
Tuesday, January 2nd, come show your support for the men and women of the 1-108th Cavalry who are scheduled to deploy within the next week. They're holding their Departure Ceremony at Georgia Northwestern Technical College at 11am. We're excited to partner with VFW Post 5408 Acworth Georgia, District 1 VFW Department of Georgia, Samantha Lusk & Associates Realty, Rotary Club of Calhoun, GA, Thatchers Barbeque and Grill Calhoun, and a few others to provide lunch for these Soldiers, families, and friends! Volunteers are always appreciated for set up, serving, and clean up 🫣
