Boston History Company (formerly Cambridge Historical Tours) is seeking new guides who are able to deliver interesting narratives of history with a passionate, theatrical flair, and deep love of sharing and teaching others.

Tours primarily focus on Boston's Freedom Trail, Harvard and MIT, Kendall Square and Innovation, Museum of Fine Arts, and other local favorites. Guide pay starts at $50 hourly for public tours and $65 hourly for private tours. Work is very flexible and part time only. We do not have full time positions available at the moment. Saturdays and Sundays are the heaviest tour days, but weekdays can also fill up. Evening tours are unusual, so we are looking for daytime availability. Perfect for someone with flexible/remote work looking to get out and moving, theatre folk between gigs, teachers looking to teach in non-classroom settings, and history buffs who just know this is the kind of job they've always wanted.

Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis through February and the first week of March with decisions made in the second week of March. Training begins Sunday, March 17th, and guides are expected to know their first tour by April 20th. Training pays a flat fee of $400-$800 depending on length of tour learned.

Tour season generally begins in May and runs through mid-November. This is when the bulk of the tours will be available. Most guides average 2-8 tours per week. Please email Daniel and/or Kelley at [email protected] for an interview, and we look forward to meeting you!

“On Patriots Day, visitors at the Worcester Historical Museum were able to view a piece of history displayed only once a year.

John Hancock, played by actor Daniel Berger Jones, is at the museum alongside his 245-year-old trunk which held many historical papers used in the American Revolution. The trunk has been stored at the museum since 1895. Its history dates back to April 18, 1775 when Hancock and Samuel Adams were staying in Lexington, Mass.on the eve of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

The trunk, which at the time was filled with Hancock’s personal notes and correspondence considered traitorous by the British, was being stowed at a tavern in Lexington. On the morning of April 19, 1775, as the British advanced toward Lexington for the battle, Hancock and Adams were moved to evade capture. Paul Revere and Hancock’s clerk retrieved the trunk from the tavern and hid it from the British, saving a vital piece of American history.”
