Check out this Queen City Nerve article highlighting our very own Audrey Baran's company!
This amazing performance taking place June 1st and 2nd also includes several UNC Charlotte Department of Dance faculty and alumni!!
Congratulation to all involved on such a great concert!
"As an evening at Parr Center during Baran Dance’s Homegrown show this weekend will confirm, Baran is still the throbbing heart of her company’s performances and choreography.
Baran’s most impactful piece is the one she least wanted to write: “Blood of Fools,” with music by Jeremy Davis, who performs as Elonzo Wesley. She had already choreographed a work about the shootings at UNC Charlotte in 2019 titled “Luck of the Young.” Then it felt to Baran like she must address this one incident directly, along with the issue of gun control."

Thanks to an Opportunity Fund grant from the City of Charlotte and university support, dance professor Ashley Tate and dance alumni are developing choreography that tells the story of the Historic Grace A.M.E. Zion Church and its journey from Charlotte's Brooklyn neighborhood to new land in the University area.
Their dances are part of a larger project, "Brooklyn to Browne's Ferry," that features new music by YUNG Citizen and Charlotte Strings Collective, spoken words by Malika Stevely and video by Marlon Morrison.
There are two chances to see their work live! May 19 at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church on David Cox Road and May 20 in the Historic Grace, The Brooklyn Collective Charlotte.

Professor Ashley Tate hosted College Mentors for Kids this past Monday!
This initiative's goal is to connect kids to college students through weekly on-campus activities that inspire growth, confidence, and brighter futures.
The organization holds activities on campus in which they transport kids from local area elementary schools to campus and hold activities focused on one of three activity topics: Higher Education and Careers, Culture and Diversity, and Community Service.
Professor Tate led the kids through a hip-hop activity and gave a tour of Robinson!
