Your diagnosis does not define who you are! There is SO. MUCH. MORE. to who a person is! A huge part of what we love here at The Fun in Function is helping kiddos work on the skills that help them communicate and thrive in the world around them so that they can share with others the awesome person they are!

We had a great time getting to work with Local 3 News to highlight some of the difficulties the pandemic has created with speech development in young children. Our therapists use standardized assessments that measure development to pre-pandemic and research-backed standards.

How mask wearing throughout the pandemic has impacted speech development in young children There is some debate about how the use of masks has impacted children's learning and speech development.

Interested in joing our amazing team? We are hiring a Patient Coordinator to work our front desk! One of the things we pride ourselves on at The Fun in Function is being a resource for parents and caregivers as they develop a holistic plan for their children’s needs. The Patient Coordinator is expected to be professional, personable, and helpful to everyone entering the lobby. As one of the first impressions that new patients will have, appearance should be neat and clean. The dress code includes a company t-shirt and jeans or scrub bottoms free from holes. The lobby can be a busy space with caregivers and siblings of clients, the ideal candidate would be able to handle the commotion well, enjoy talking to people for many hours a day, assert a standard of conduct with families when needed, and multi-task easily in a noisy environment.

On a lighter note, today is National Make Your Bed Day! Bedtime can be a struggle...well, maybe that's an understatement. Have you heard of sensory compression blankets?! These can be immensely helpful for kids who crave proprioceptive input. These blankets provide that "squeezing" feeling without too much added warmth. The added bonus is there isn't the need for a top sheet and lots of blankets that then make it difficult for kids to make their own bed. Have you or your kids tried a sensory compression blanket? What did you think?

Many parents are surprised that we can do both speech therapy and occupational therapy via telehealth! This can be a huge help to scheduling and reduce travel time, leaving you more time together as a family and less time sitting in traffic or waiting in our lobby. You can even come into the clinic for some of your sessions and utilize telehealth for others. Ask your therapist today if this is a good option for your child.
