A Kevin sighting twice in one week? What are the odds?! Kevin and Matt (on the left) are pastors who are very supportive of the work that the Wesley Center does as it ministers to the campus community of Chattanooga. We're really thankful for them and the way their congregations faithfully support the Wesley Center through gifts given directly to the center, and through their dedicated giving via District and Conference tithe.

It was nice to visit with the congregation of Broad St. UMC in Cleveland, TN today. Rev. Hugh Kilgore had a great sermon on convincing grace, and it was especially nice to catch up with Rev. Kevin Gray and his wife Anna! Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since Kevin led Wesley’s fall retreat!

It’s almost time for puppies!

First Centenary UMC is hosting Puppies and Popsicles at the Wesley Center! Stop by the Wesley from 1-3 on Tuesday, August 27th, and cuddle a puppy while cooling off with a tasty frozen treat. Not sure what you'd call it, but that's pretty much a win win situation in our book.

Thanks to the Rev. Bill Thornton and the congregation of Signal Crest UMC for the welcome. As Bill said, it’s the faithful, obedient support of congregations like SCUMC through their district and conference tithes that make the work of ministries like ours possible.

Also, thanks to Drew for catching a picture of Keith mid phrase. 😆

Student Leadership Academy – Organization Info – The Wesley Center 08/17/2024

The next generation is here and wants to lead. They want the opportunity to see real leadership and put those lessons into practice. But what leaders can they turn to?

They could be taught leadership is the hard, boisterous, self-aggrandizing methods we see online and on screen by leaders far removed from them.

OR

They can learn a positive, cooperative, and firm version of leadership guided by members of the very community in which they live.

The Wesley Servant Leadership Academy is looking to help teach young adults to be great leaders by partnering them with local churches, non-profits, and businesses in our community. Through Wesley Servant Leadership Academy, students will be taught how leadership works in the day-to-day with practical lessons by people that work in our local churches, non-profits, businesses, and government on:

team building,
growth from success and failure,
communication,
sharing responsibilities and rewards

As they learn these skills, students will be partnered with local institutions so they can see leadership in action and practice the skills they learn, while giving those institutions the help that they need from our young adults. Young adults learn about and help our community, while our community gets to see and guide our young adults forward.

Being a leader is not a job title, but a practice learned and earned everyday by the actions we do. Leadership is learned through doing.

What is Required by the Partner Church

Fill out the application below:
Submit a proposal of what your intern would do working in your church for 3-5 hours per week, including a desired schedule and copy of Safe Sanctuaries policy.
Contribute $1,000 to the Wesley Student Leadership Academy to cover the intern’s stipend and cost of leadership academy materials.
