During that decade, the positions of State Fish Warden (1890) and State Game Warden (1899) were established to protect Wyoming's wildlife from dangers of over ha

Big game animals in Wyoming travel up and down mountains, plains and deserts in all kinds of weather to migrate between their summer and winter ranges. Even if snow feels far away at the moment, mule deer are packing on the pounds right now to prepare for their annual journey. Summer food foraging is what gets deer through grueling miles of deep snow and limited food availability so that they can make the journey again once spring arrives. Migration is truly a year-round process.

Hundreds of trout have found homes in Wyoming waters across the state this season thanks to students and teachers participating in a new program. Trout in the Classroom is a partnership between the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and Trout Unlimited where students and teachers raise rainbow trout in their classrooms over the course of a semester.
This year, 28 schools participated in Trout in the Classroom, with at least one school in every Game and Fish region, encompassing more than 1,500 student caretakers. Classrooms receive trout eggs from Game and Fish hatcheries in January and raise them throughout the semester while learning concepts of ecology, population biology, water quality, fish anatomy and conservation.
Once the trout reach the fingerling stage, participants are able to release their fish into a designated pond under the supervision of Game and Fish personnel. Releases this year took place throughout April and May in 12 designated community fisheries. One of these waters, Sloan Lake in Cheyenne, was the site of a few releases including the trout from St. Mary's Catholic School.
Watch to learn more about Trout in the Classroom.

American bison are icons of the West. These majestic animals have been on the Wyoming landscape for thousands of years and are part of our state's history.
Governor Gordon both understands and appreciates what this history means for the people of Wyoming. Every year he donates a wild bison license to support Wyoming wildlife conservation, and gives the opportunity to hunt with this license exclusively to residents of the Cowboy State.
If you're a Wyoming resident, you can purchase a raffle ticket for $10 for a chance to win this opportunity. Revenue from raffle ticket sales stays in Wyoming and supports the Governor's Big Game License Coalition and our wildlife. The raffle closes one week from today.

It's time to talk trash. One person's trash is another bear's treasure, and if it's true that you are what you eat, we don't want bears to feel like garbage.
Bears are up and moving all over Wyoming, and they just cant help themselves when faced with a tasty and convenient snack (em-bear-assing). Backyard attractants range from garbage and domestic livestock to honey and fruit trees.
Help bears and yourself by securing any tempting treats that might be floating around your property:
🗑️ Store your trash inside a bear resistant container or building
⚡ Install electric fencing around fruit trees, berry bushes and gardens
🐓 Keep pets and livestock inside or in a shelter at night
🐝 Elevate beehives on platforms with metal poles that bears can not climb
🐥 Suspend bird feeders at least 10 feet off the ground and 4 feet away from any tree trunk or pole

The thing about moms is, no matter the species, we're always looking up to you.
Moms and kids have a special bond. Sometimes it can feel like you have your own secret language. Elk take this to even more of an extreme — cow elk and calves actually do have their own language. These sounds, called mewing, are unique to mom and kid. Cow elk moms can make sounds that mean "where are you?" or "be quiet, there's danger near." Calves can not only understand the difference, they can also respond with specific calls back to mom.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there, new or seasoned, who we look up to all year long.
