Our trainees put on a show at the annual Rush Trainee Research Day! ๐บ ๐ฟ
It was exciting to watch them display some of our hard work from the year and listen in on the work of their peers. This is where ideas are born! ๐
๐ Stay posted on our team's latest research!๐
Medical student Michael Vogel presented a couple of our latest 10-year outcome studies as posters at this year's AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting! These projects separately showed that patients with borderline hip dysplasia and with mild osteoarthritis can achieve successful 10-year outcomes after hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome.
Read the full Tรถnnis Grade study now (and the BHD study soon) in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
๐ฅ A Very Special Specialty Day ๐ฅ
It was a pleasure to join many of my esteemed colleagues in the 2024 AOSSM Specialty Day.
I was grateful for the opportunity to share my 10-year outcomes following hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome in the setting of borderline hip dysplasia, as well as my treatment algorithm for the management of the failed labral repair.
Thank you to everyone who joined!

๐ Award Winning Research ๐
It was an honor to have our research recognized as a Top Paper at the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting.
This study demonstrates that patients undergoing contemporary hip arthroscopy with labral repair, surgical correction of femoroacetabular impingement deformity, and capsular repair demonstrate successful outcomes at minimum 10-year follow-up.
๐ Awesome work team! ๐

There's certainly an art to a proper femoroplasty but this is the first time I've been asked to sign my work! ๐จโ๐จ
Sports fellow, Ron Gilat, MD, getting a dose of elbow surgery while on the hip service!
Distal triceps tendon injuries might be rare, but my colleagues here at Rush have demonstrated favorable outcomes with no cases of rerupture!
๐จ๐จ New Publication Alert in Arthroscopy ๐จ๐จ
In this study we demonstrated what drives costs in outpatient hip arthroscopy.
As you might expect, more implants and longer OR time means higher costs. โฐ + โ = ๐ธ
Congrats to Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush's own Sandy Stasaitis on completing two triathlons, the Chicago Marathon, and four other races this year!
After undergoing arthroscopic surgery on both hips, Sandy is still going strong! ๐จ๐จ๐จ
๐จ New Publication Alert ๐จ
Check out our most recent addition to the American Journal of Sports Medicine demonstrating that patients improve their single-leg squat performance after hip arthroscopy!
This furthers the evidence that patients benefit from hip arthroscopy and improve their sports performance!
๐โโ๏ธ Congratulations Maria!!! ๐โโ๏ธ
An accomplished marathoner, Maria came to us after experiencing pain in her right hip. At this time, she could not run for more than 4 miles at a time.
Maria was diagnosed with FAIS and a labral tear. Soon after, she underwent a hip arthroscopy. Nine months after surgery she completed a half marathon and now she just completed the NYC marathonโผ๏ธ
Congratulations Maria, we're so proud of you!

Repairing the labrum and reshaping bony deformity are the bread and butter ๐๐ด of hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). Listen in to learn the most important surgical steps for alleviating hip pain caused by labral tears and FAIS.
"Could it be my labrum?"๐ค Maybe, but maybe not. Hip pain is the most common reason patients visit me in clinic, and it excites me to determine the source! Did you know, hip pain can actually be referred from other nearby parts of the body? Including the abdomen, spine, pelvis, and knee, to name a few. Listen in to learn the complexity of diagnosing hip pain.
What's your of revision hip arthroscopy? ๐ง Check out our new article at Arthroscopy Journal ๐จ Full article now available online at Arthroscopy Journal๐
Gluteus medius and minimus tears are a common source of lateral hip pain and in adults๐๐ง. In cases of substantial muscle retraction, surgical repair with a graft may be warranted. In this case, superficial delamination (red arrow) of the gluteus medius (GM) muscle belly from its tendon would make for a challenging fix with sutures alone. Instead, we used an acellular dermal allograft as a scaffold to facilitate healing of the GM to the greater trochanter (GT), back to where it belongs! ๐คฏ
Think you have a hamstring tear?๐ค Hamstring injuries are among the most common lower extremity injuries in athletes. Listen in to learn how we diagnose and treat common hamstring injuries๐๐ด
