Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Prepares for Primate Forest Transformation - Guests are invited to visit The RainForest through September 9
In preparation for the start of construction on the Zoo’s new Primate Forest destination, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today announced the upcoming closure of The RainForest. During the temporary closure, many of the spaces within the existing RainForest will be refreshed and remodeled as they are integrated into the Primate Forest to enhance the guest experience and elevate animal wellbeing.

The Zoo Education team makes a big impact year-round for all ages! Last year alone, the team hosted over nearly 60,000 students from 510 schools and provided over 23,000 scholarships or free programming.

Our Guest Services team welcomes over 1.3 million Zoo guests annually, and guides approximately 500,000 of them through all the rides and attractions we have to offer including the Zip Line, Carousel and, most recently, Dino Cove!

Jam Update! If you’ve been following baby gorilla Jameela’s journey, we have an exciting new development update, she is now crawling! Visit Jam and the rest of the troop at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo this summer.
The Conservation and Science team not only work closely with our trusted field partners, but also work closely with the Animal and Veterinary Programs team to maximize animal health and welfare of the animals in care here at the Zoo. This work spreads from our largest animals like elephants to the smallest like the meerkats!

The Animal Care team ensures the health and wellbeing of approximately 3,000 animals, 365 days a year! That is over 185,000 hours per year dedicated to the animals in care at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and a wide variety of food to meet their nutritional needs including 125,000 pounds of fresh produce, 33,000 pounds of meat, 24,000 pounds of fish, and just over 1 million pounds of hay annually!
Did you know the Special Events & Experiences team welcomes over 400,000 guests to special events annually? That includes all your favorite Zoo events like Asian Lantern Festival and Wild Winter Lights. Asian Lantern Festival just surpassed more than one million guests since it first began in 2018! Don’t miss this year’s festival that concludes August 25.
The Facility Maintenance team are always on the move managing the Zoo's trash and recycling programs – staff members average over 20,000 steps per shift on busy days! Did you know that the team maintains more than just the Zoo's buildings and infrastructure? They work closely with the Animal Care team on habitat improvements and enrichment items all the time, including the raised feeders around the elephant yards!

It’s ! We’re kicking off the week by celebrating the Zoo’s Horticulture team! Did you know the Horticulture team has planted over 4,000 plants and trees this year alone? Additionally, they have delivered over 300 truckloads of browse since the beginning of the year! Supplying fresh browse to the animals on a daily basis greatly impacts their overall health and wellness in a positive way. Stay tuned throughout the week to learn more!
