Calling all OSU students! After a few years’ hiatus, Poultry Science Club’s annual Easter egg hunt is back!

Thank you to our 72nd Annual Turkey Sale volunteers! This was a record year for us and we sold over 600 individual turkey products!

Tonight we helped set up the Annual Ohio Poultry Association Banquet! Our members were able to network and learn more about the support systems the poultry industry has! Thank you so much

Our next Exec Spotlight is our Vice President Spencer Karn! Spencer is our own version of Shaun White and enjoys snowboarding 🏂

Our Exec Spotlight today is Lindsey Okuley! Lindsey is our secretary and a fun fact about her is that she has a super cute weiner dog named Oscary Meyer Okuley!

Our judging team placed 4th at the competition in Arkansas, with two top 5 individuals, and top 5 in both the egg and meat divisions!

It’s that time of year again! Poultry science club is running their annual thanksgiving turkey sale for the 72nd year from NOW until November 8th. Turkeys are supplied by Bowman & Landes, Inc. You do not need to be affiliated with OSU to order! DM for more information or if you would like a physical order form! 🦃

Poultry Science Club had our first meeting of the year this past Thursday. Thank you to everyone who came out to paint with chicks! We think the chicks had just as great of a time as we did ;) 🐣

Congratulations to the OSU Poultry Judging Team, who recently competed at the Louisiana State University in the national contest! The team placed 4th in the products division and 5th in the breeder division. Congratulations to the team members on a great year!

The poultry production students had some lovely rainy weather today for turning their mortality compost piles! We were able to assess decomposition across treatments and review temperature profiles of the compost piles. The students are in the home stretch of the semester!

Yesterday in poultry production, students were lead through a mortality composting demonstration. Each group of students created a composting bin with a different carbon source. In a few weeks, we will open the bins and download temperature data to see if there were any differences! Good job to the students for getting their hands a little dirty for the purpose of this exercise! 💪🏼

Happy Saturday! Today, we are at Marysville High School for the FFA poultry CDE. Good luck to all the students competing and thank you to our volunteers for putting on the contest!

The OSU Poultry Science Club is proud and honored to help put on poultry FFA CDE’s throughout the state. A few weeks ago, we worked with Mt. Gilead to host our first CDE since 2019! We are currently preparing for this weekends contest in Marysville! Will we see you there?

Don’t forget to sign-up for the 2022 Youth Poultry Clinic held in Wooster, OH on March 19th. A variety of topics will be covered to provide hands-on learning opportunities to students ages 8-18 and their parents. Thank you to Dieter Haas of Case Farms for speaking to the Poultry Production class about your experience as a broiler breeder feed technician! We appreciate you and the knowledge you shared with us! 🐔

Students in 4006.02 collected data on their 7 week old broiler chicks today, assessed chick welfare and made adjustments to their pens to accommodate their ever growing chicks! All the chicks received a great report and their 23 parents say that they’re adorable! 🐥

It’s cold outside, but it’s toasty inside our poultry barn! The chicks are loving their pens which are about 90°F during their first week of life ☀️

It’s been a busy week here on campus! 23 students in poultry production became parents to about 300 baby chicks! Students will care for their birds throughout the next 5 weeks. 🐣🐥 (photo credits to )

This week in poultry production (4006.02), students had the opportunity to make two different layer diets with Dr. Ben Wenner. The diets will be fed to the students laying hens for comparison of egg yolk color. Thanks to Dr. Wenner for this fun exercise! Hopefully the hens enjoy their new feed 🌽

Are you, or do you know, someone interested in poultry science? If so, the Youth Poultry Clinic is the place to be! After taking a two year break due to COVID-19 protocols, the annual clinic is back and will be held March 19th in Wooster, OH.
