There’s no better season to enjoy oatmeal over the fire. Sure, you can easily make packaged oatmeal with boiling water, but you can also prepare oatmeal easily over the fire, using fresh fruit such as apples, brown sugar and nuts.

In a large pot, add 4 cups of quick oats, fruit, nuts or other toppings, then cover with milk. Cook over a low flame for about 5 minutes, stirring often, and adding more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency. Be careful not to burn the bottom!
