Brianna Rostel () is a public health, health management and policy alumna. She completed her internship at the Grace Center for Adult Day Services in Corvallis, OR. As a transfer student, she was able to find her sense of belonging by participating in the Healthy Aging Club.

"I found it very rewarding to have the ability to get to know the participants of Grace Center. It has also been informative to learn how day-to-day operations function to keep the Grace Center running. It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to ensure non-profits like the Grace Center can follow their mission, and it has been helpful to learn some ways administration at Grace Center keep the place funded and running efficiently."

In the spirit of commencement week, meet Jeanne Armstong, a home economics alumna who recently visited campus 70 years after her graduation. Oregon State shaped who Jeanne is today.

During her time as a student, Jeanne had four children and made lifelong friends. Her college boyfriend, who was drafted into WW II, became her husband of 74 years. As a student, she lived in Waldo Hall, met a lifelong mentor, was part of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and worked as hard as she studied. She had anticipated graduating in 1949, but the war, and life, had other plans.

Our Story

The future of public health

We all know the future is not health care. It’s health. More specifically, it’s the 90 percent of factors that contribute to our health – our biology, our environment, our social interactions and our lifestyle and behavior. This makes us uniquely positioned to improve the health and wellness of people, families and communities, lower healthcare costs and affect health system change.

As a unique community of problem-solvers, and through teaching, research and collaboration across our college, university, state and world, we are leading the change in how people think about and ensure health across the lifespan, from infants to seniors.

We affect change through teaching students who become leaders in their profession, through our research that affects behavior change and policy and through our collaboration with communities in finding solutions to their most difficult health challenges.
