Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women/People Awareness Day: Two days of events sponsored by kaku-ixt mana ina haws and Indigenous Studies will mark this celebration. Deborah Miranda is known for her book “Bad Indians: A Tribal Memoir,” and ire’ne lara silva was recognized as the 2023 Texas State Poet Laureate with her most recent collection “The Eaters of Flowers” released in 2024. Take Back the Night: Take Back the Night is an internationally recognized event held to protest sexual violence in all its forms and to provide a safe, confidential space for survivors of sexual violence to share their stories. This year's Take Back the Night at OSU will be held from 7-10 p.m., April 25 in the SEC Plaza and will feature a rally with keynote speakers and student performers, a march, and a survivor speakout. There will be an exception made to OSU's responsible employee reporting requirements for this event regarding any disclosures of sexual assault. Confidential CAPS counselors and survivor advocates from CAPE and CARDV will be on site to provide support and connection to resources.

Oregon State Ecampus has set aside limited funding to assist online students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship that interferes with academic progress. This funding is being provided to help ensure that Ecampus students with demonstrated financial need are able to continue their education at OSU.
Ecampus Financial Hardship Grant Fund Eligibility Criteria (must meet all the following):
• Current or continuing undergraduate Ecampus students, and
• Enrolled in at least 6 online Oregon State credit hours during the current academic term at the time of application, and
• Currently experiencing economic hardship that significantly impedes academic progress
• Clearly explains how this financial hardship will interrupt academic progress

We will talk about reading data with R and organizing it in variables, vectors, and matrices. We will perform some basic operations on the data (mean, maximums, minimums), create some visualizations, and save them. We will talk about writing R scripts and functions. We recommend that you install R and RStudio in your own computer for the workshop, but you can also access it via Citrix.

Now that you've picked up the basics of QGIS, learn how to manipulate and analyze your data. In Intermediate QGIS, we'll use the available spatial analysis tools to generate new insights into the material covered in the Basics workshop. We'll use the raster calculator, join fields in databases, create hillshades, and make more complex, finished maps. This workshop builds on the QGIS Basics workshop and may be difficult to follow if you have not taken Basics.

I am so pleased to share that Patricia Fifita (Ethnic Studies) has been awarded a Lenfest Ocean Program Grant, supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts, for her project: "Indigenous (Re)envisioning and Restoration of Anahola Seascapes."

It is a 15-month project focused on documenting oral histories, traditional land and marine resource use, place names, and management practices via participatory story mapping. As PI, Patricia, will develop a makai (ocean) restoration plan and an Indigenous research and data sovereignty document for use in future restoration projects. Patricia (PI) is working with Lori Cramer in MAST Assistant Director/Sociology (Co-PI) and Kanaka Maoli collaborators Dr. Lelemia Irvine (UH West Oahu), and Emmalani Makepa-Wong and Jeremie Makepa from the Kanaka Maoli non-profit organization Aina Alliance.
