The Texas Association of School Resource Officers (TASRO) is a not-for-profit organization for school based law enforcement officers, school administrators, and school safety/security personnel.
Message from our Executive Director:
Over the past several weeks school districts in Texas and across the country have been inundated with social media threats to harm our children while they attend school. A school district near Houston last week had 500 kids absent from one campus because of these threats. No one should live in fear to receive an education. This is unacceptable and those individuals who make these threats, when identified and a violation of law has occurred, need to be held accountable. Not only are they instilling fear in students and parents, but they are taxing law enforcement resources and taking them away from other essential duties with these bogus threats.
In the next few days I will be meeting with U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales (San Antonio) to discuss the issues we here in Texas have been facing. Representative Gonzales is very passionate about school safety and I appreciate his office’s proactive stance to make schools safe for our kids.
As always, stay safe and thank you for what you do.

SROs who stopped Ga. school shooter had extensive backgrounds, training in school threat response The two SROs at Apalachee High School are credited with helping to prevent further casualties at the school by quickly confronting the shooter and taking him into custody
I am saddened and devastated by today's horrific news from Georgia. The murder of four people and the numerous injuries to others at Apalachee High School were senseless and unimaginable. We at TASRO grieve for the innocent lives taken and for the families who were affected by this tragedy. We are also thankful for our law enforcement partners who secured the school and took the suspect into custody.

TASRO and other Texas law enforcement organizations met this morning via Zoom in a unified effort to request Texas law makers continue funding the National Child ID program. Also attending the meeting was NFL Hall of Famer Mike Singletary.
From our conference to the NASRO conference, some of our staff have made it to Phoenix for the NASRO conference. We will be assisting both NASRO and our partners with the Arizona School Resource Officers Association this week.
From Executive Director Shane Wallace:
I want to personally thank all of those who attended our 11th annual school safety conference this past week in San Marcos. It was a pleasure reconnecting with SRO's across our state and meeting new friends. I also want to thank the over 40 vendors/exhibitors we had in attendance. Each offered remarkable products and/or services. Lastly, I want to thank our board for their hard work and dedication in making the conference a success.
Next year we will be teaming up with the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) in Grapevine, Tx July 6th-11th, 2025 for the NASRO conference. I would encourage you to join us there for another great training opportunity.
Stay safe,
Shane Wallace

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
TASRO Treasurer Zach Apostolo visited a high school student this afternoon who collects police patches and enjoys visiting with officers in his area. Zach was able to add some patches to the young man’s collection. In addition to being a treasurer and an SRO supervisor, Zack works security at the church that this student attends. Building relationships times two!!

Sad news out of Arlington, Tx.
This afternoon at James Bowie High School (Arlington ISD), a student lost their life at the hands of another. While our prayers are with all of the students, staff, and families affected by this senseless act of violence, let's remember why we do this job as SROs. The relationships we build with our students and the continued training only help us all to be more prepared for the worst days.
We at TASRO want to thank each of our members and every SRO and School-Based Law Enforcement Officer for taking on the responsibility to keep our kids safe.
