Get Better Building Codes with the NAHB 2024 I-Codes Adoption Kit NAHB has published its 2024 I-Codes Adoption Kit, a set of resources designed to help home builders and HBAs understand what’s new in the codes and to guide state and local code officials considering adoption of the latest set of building codes.

With a nationwide shortage of roughly 1.5 million housing units that is making it increasingly difficult for American families to afford to purchase or rent a home, NAHB provides this 10-point housing plan to help tame shelter inflation and ease the housing affordability crisis by removing barriers that hinder the construction of new homes and apartments.

Eliminate excessive regulations;
Promote careers in the skilled trades;
Fix building material supply chains and ease costs;
Pass federal tax legislation to expand the production of affordable and attainable housing;
Overturn inefficient local zoning rules;
Alleviate permitting roadblocks;
Adopt reasonable and cost-effective building codes;
Reduce local impact fees and other upfront taxes associated with housing construction;
Make it easier for developers to finance new housing; and
Update employment policies to promote flexibility and opportunity.

Nearly Half of U.S. Households Can’t Afford a $250,000 Home 05/20/2024

Are you on the fence about joining your local HBA? Here is another reason to become a member! Your local, state, and national Home Builders Associations continue to fight for home affordability. NAHB’s estimates for 2024 show that 103.5 million households—76.9% of all U.S. households—are already not able to afford a median priced new home ($495,750). Regulations imposed by all levels of government account for $93,870, or 23.8% of the current average sales price ($397,300) of a new single-family home, according to a new study by NAHB.

Do you feel like you don't have to join because you receive the advocacy benefits even if you don't pay the dues and join? If everyone in the building industry follows that thought process, your local HBA would not exist, the state HBAs would not exist, and the National Association of Builders WOULD. NOT. EXIST.

Nearly Half of U.S. Households Can’t Afford a $250,000 Home NAHB has updated its housing affordability graph for 2024, and the latest data show that 66.6 million households, 49% out of a total of 134.9 million, are unable to afford a $250,000 home.
