South Dallas Cultural Center
The South Dallas Cultural Center is a municipal, multi-purpose arts facility located across from Fair Park in southern Dallas, Texas.
The Center celebrates the creativity, vibrancy, and diversity of the African Diaspora. The South Dallas Cultural Center's facility features a 120-seat black box theater; a visual arts gallery; studios for dance; two-dimensional arts; fiber; media arts; printmaking; and photography. The Center also has a full service digital recording studio. Classes held in these studios help inspire in both the young and old love of art from the African Diaspora.

Salako Music is a singer-songwriter based in Dallas, Texas. Salako’s lyrics are playful and alluring while exploring elements of spirituality. Salako’s love for the arts grew while studying dance with the Beckley Center, W. E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy and the legendary Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. However due to injuries she began to pursue her singing career. Her creativity expands from motherhood as a creator of two to being featured as a musician. Salako Music has been featured for So Far Sounds, countless community festivals and was a NPR’s Top Shelf pick for Tiny Desk.
First 20 seats are free with registration with limited seating available. $10 suggested donation, PWYC, no one turned away due to lack of funds. Dive into a space where performance meets cultural celebration. Led by Tiana Kaye Blair, a Dallas native, artist, and performer, this movement workshop centers the cultural traditions of Black girls and women. We invite performers of all kinds and community members of all ages to a fun evening down memory lane and an inspiring artistic event.
Raise Your Voice | Living Art Camp is excited to partner with the South Dallas Cultural Center to bring Art + Social Justice to the students of Dallas. Through art, we can enhance the lives of the youth in our communities. The arts provide a safe place for children to be creative regardless of race of socioeconomic background. Statistics and research have shown that the arts help with child development and cultural awareness.
Students will learn about the wonderful contributions of the African diaspora in art. They will explore photography, music, art, dance and spoken word. Each day they will be led by near peer instructors, community volunteers and industry professionals to engage in hands-on, multimedia activities that will help them develop observation and technical skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and various other art mediums. Students will also learn about painting, dance, poetry, photography, music production and other various forms of art! 3 meals per day, transportation for field trips, technology devices, art supplies and camp t-shirts will be provided! To register for this event, parents / guardians will need to complete this application by providing student information and parent contact information.

Brandi is a Fort Worth- based musician, educator, and scholar-activist. A singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, she incorporates her proficiency on piano, banjo, guitar, and ‘ukulele into her performances. She was a member of the critically-acclaimed vocal ensemble Afro Blue, sharing the stage with jazz greats Geri Allen, Carmen Lundy, Andy Bey, Jimmu Cobb, Nnenna Frelon and Bobby McFerrin.

This workshop considers the predix “re- meaning “again” or “back”. We will rely on the self as source, the self as generative. Participants will begin by writing a dozen lines of verse that begin with “I remember” as a way of looking back to move forward.💫

Starting Tuesday, August 15, we're excited to kick off our 2023-2024 Season schedule. Our regular hours will be from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, providing a consistent experience for our visitors. We'll be closed on Sundays and Mondays, allowing our team to recharge.
