🦋 Oct 27-29! THE ENDANGERED
The Endangered - a 55-minute concert features 3 locally commissioned world premieres about threatened Texas species. The Greasewood Moth premiere is by our very own tenor Samuel K. Sweet.

🦋Sixteen singers and 10 instrumentalists will perform within the venue's stark industrial space as Courtney Ware's stunning AI-generated visuals animate a towering 110-foot wall, vividly enhancing the musical call to urgent conservation action.

🦋Once found across the Southwest's desert shrublands feeding on greasewood plants, the nondescript greasewood moth, last seen in 1961, exemplifies how even widespread species can be rapidly decimated by human activities like grazing, agriculture, and unbalanced use of chemicals.

Once abundant across the Canadian tundra and prairie regions, the Eskimo Curlew is a medium-sized brown shorebird distinguished by its long, downcurved bill. Hunting and habitat loss decimated this species in the late 1800s, and it was last reliably spotted in the 1960s. Believed to be extinct, protecting the curlew's breeding and migratory grounds could have supported many other grassland species. But we will never hear the Eskimo Curlew's high, whistling call again. Now it serves as a reminder – conserve habitat before it’s too late.

The Endangered sneak peek: The Black-Capped Vireo is a small olive-green songbird that blends into the Texas brushlands it inhabits. Abundant decades ago, this Vireo declined sharply by the mid-1900s due to habitat destruction and cowbird nest parasitism. Listed as endangered in 1987, the Black-Capped Vireo continues to face an uncertain future. Conserving its habitat protects this species and other endangered plants and animals that share the same fragile ecosystem. Action is needed to save this unique bird.

Founding Artistic Director of Verdigris Ensemble, Sam Brukhman, would like to personally invite you to 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥!

In partnership with the Dallas Contemporary, Verdigris Ensemble kicks off our 7th season with a 55-minute music experience that deeply explores our connection with the endangered species of Dallas. Using internationally-acclaimed composer Sarah Kirkland SniderI’s Mass For 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 as a framework, Verdigris Ensemble singers create a multi-sensory experience using Snider’s music, which is primarily set to text of endangered animals across the world, with a twist. Movements of Snider’s six-movement work are intertwined with world premiere music compositions from local composers, further hyper-contextualizing the music into urgent action within our city.

🦅 THE ENDANGERED 🦆
Verdigris Ensemble launches its 7th season in collaboration with the Dallas Contemporary to present The Endangered, a 55-minute music experience, featuring three world premieres, that deeply explores our connection with the endangered species of Dallas.

🏬 BEAUTIFICATION 🥀
Verdigris Ensemble world premieres the immersive narration of Ladybird Johnson’s iconic Highway Beautification Act as told her from her own perspective, inspired by visual artist Bianca Bondi’s site-specific new installation at the Dallas Contemporary.

🌬️ DUST BOWL 🏜️
Anthony J. Maglione's acclaimed music/theater experience, which played to sold-out audiences during its world premiere in 2020, triumphantly returns to Dallas. The originally-crafted work, which was hailed by Dallas critics as “breathtaking” and “unlike anything else in our city,” features first-hand accounts of survivors of the Dust Bowl.

🛢️ MIS-LEAD 🏠
Verdigris Ensemble premieres its flagship music experience of the year, Mis-lead, by nationally acclaimed composer Kirsten Soriano. In a stunningly sobering telling of West Dallas’s lead-infused past, Verdigris Ensemble narrates the true story of Dallas’s troubled past with lead smelting factories and their effects on West Dallas neighborhoods.

Verdigris Ensemble and are pleased to announce their partnership for the 2023 Verdigris Ensemble fall season, which will include two productions presented at Dallas Contemporary dedicated to themes of ecological justice and the environment: ‘The Endangered,’ from October 27-29, and ‘Beautification,’ from December 1-3.

Dallas Contemporary is a non-collecting, kunsthalle museum with the privilege of presenting the vanguard of contemporary artistic practice through exhibitions, public programs, and performances. The museum believes that the display of art objects, discourse, and community activity work together to advance our understanding of the art of this moment. By virtue of its flexible nature, like Verdigris Ensemble, Dallas Contemporary is uniquely positioned to map Dallas as a locus of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts.

New Music USA’s Organization Fund is for outstanding organizations which work regularly with, and support the development of, music creators and artists and offer a crucial resource to their community. Kudos to all of the awardees!

08/15/2023

We are thrilled to announce Kyle Igneczi as our new Executive Director, with support for the position made possible in part by a gift in memory of Emily Javadi.

Kyle brings decades of non-profit performance and leadership practice, including creating forward-facing community partnerships and collaborations for international non-profits, civic organizations, small startups, and artistic entities. His work as an arts leader and administrator has shaped identities, instituted change, and raised significant funding for regional organizations, including IMPRINT Theatreworks, WaterTower Theatre, and the Plano Symphony Orchestra.

“Joining Verdigris seems like the culmination of all the work I’ve done through the years", Kyle shared with us. "Combining my roots in opera and choral performance with my career in musical theater, and adding the fulfillment of the work I’ve done in arts support, I am thrilled to join the already incredible team at Verdigris to define a future full of new possibilities in the cultural landscape here and beyond.”

Kyle was an obvious choice from our standpoint - his experience in performance, background in fundraising, and clear love and desire to grow nonprofits is exactly what we’re looking for. We couldn't be more excited to have him join our organization.

Be sure to meet him in the coming months as we get started on the ’23-24 season!

With deep regret and profound gratitude, Verdigris Ensemble shares with our supporters that our Executive Director, Scott Branks del Llano, has accepted a recent opportunity through a literary publisher to pursue his craft and artistic vision as a writer.

We congratulate Scott on this exciting new journey, and we genuinely thank him for the major contributions he made to our organization during his tenure as he guided us to a new level within the arts community. We are thrilled that Scott will remain involved as a member of our Board of Directors. Scott has proven immense dedication and a true understanding of our mission and of the ensemble’s artistry.

We wish Scott well on his new adventure and look forward to working together as a team. He will continue to serve through the month of June and lead efforts to recruit and hire an outstanding new Executive Director to come on board in August.
