Last weekend, a small team of volunteers provided free Mohs skin cancer diagnosis and treatment in Orange Walk, Belize. We also participated in a health fair hosted by a local church in partnership with the Ministry of Health & Wellness. Tremendous thanks to our volunteers and our partners, Northern Regional Hospital and the Rotary Club of Orange Walk, for helping make this possible!

Dr. Cheryl Anderson-Cermin, LEAP’s Board Chair, recently received the “Humanitarian of the Year” Award from the American Association of Orthodontists. This award honors those who have rendered outstanding public humanitarian service to improve the quality of life of those served. Congratulations, Dr. Cermin!

Happy Speech Language Pathologists Day to our incredible volunteer speech pathologists and a special shout out to Monica Kemp for her dedicated care to LEAP patients around the world! Speech pathologists are an important part of comprehensive care for children with cleft lip and palate as these conditions can affect their speech and ability to eat and drink. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and commitment in caring for your patients!

In April, our volunteers spent a weekend in Orange Walk, Belize. During the mission, Dr. Grant Gilliland was presented with the Paul Harris Award for his humanitarian contributions to the people of Belize. This is the highest award bestowed by Rotary International. Congratulations, Dr. Gilliland!

Happy National Nurses Week to all of our amazing nurse volunteers! National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends Florence Nightingale's birthday on May 12. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and dedication in caring for your patients!

Last weekend, our Belize team provided free ocular surgical care, dental care, and Mohs skin cancer diagnosis and treatment in Orange Walk. Our team provided treatment for around 90 patients. Tremendous thanks to our volunteers and our partners, Northern Regional Hospital and the Rotary Club of Orange Walk, for helping make this possible!

Our Mexico team, led by Dr. Alejandra Garcia, is home after a busy weekend of providing free ear reconstruction surgeries to children with microtia. We greatly appreciate the kindness and dedication of our volunteers. Thank you to our longtime partner Xóchitl Palacios and our hosts Clínica Cristo Médico and the Rotary Club of Ixtapa for your hospitality!

Our Mexico team is blessed to have Dr. Steve Byrd join them this year. Dr. Byrd is one of the greatest specialists in the world regarding congenital ear deformities. His invention, the EarWell, has saved thousands of infants from needing surgery. In keeping with LEAP's primary focus on education, he shared his wealth of information with medical professionals in Ixtapa.

Today's our second day of surgeries on our Mexico mission. These missions focus on ear reconstruction surgeries for children with microtia, a condition in which the outer ear is not fully formed. In this photo, Dr. Jeffrey Cone is displaying a completed ear cartilage framework ready to be transplanted under the skin. Our team has 15 patients scheduled for various stages of this life-changing surgical care!

Our volunteers are traveling to Mexico today for our first mission of the year and had someone special to see them off: LEAP Founder and Medical Director Dr. Craig Hobar! Like and comment to send our team extra prayers and encouragement as they travel.
