Our Founder and author, April Samuels, will be signing copies of her new book this weekend at the Music City Drum Show in Nashville, TN. You can find her at the Breast Cancer Can Stick It! booth # 42-43. Please stop by and say hello!
Sunday was Epic! The hard work and outstanding efforts of our newly-formed Women in Music Committee was prevalent at our Inaugural Beats & Eats event on Sunday July 14. We had an amazing turnout with great energy, networking, and education on breast cancer awareness – not to mention yummy food, prizes and games. We hope you can feel the passion and power of these women in music through the photos from the event. It was truly a magical evening!
The event featured our Vice President, Michelle Graves, moderating a panel of brave cancer survivor musicians, who openly shared their compelling and inspiring stories: triple negative breast cancer survivor, Kim Lusk (bassist Holy Dyver, The Red Rockers, Shake Me), uterine cancer survivor Lisa Umbarger (bassist The Toadies, SolShifter), breast cancer survivor Tamara King (singer/guitarist)
Special guest speaker Dr. Joyce O'Shaughnessy (aka Dr. O - Oncologist, Texas Oncology) shared a wealth of information including the latest in research and trials plus how regular exercise, maintaining a healthy body weight, a low fat diet and minimal alcohol can reduce breast cancer risk and recurrence. She also gave us hope through her clinical trial, where they are working to detect the risk of breast cancer recurrence by a simple blood draw as well as another trial researching the affects of weight loss for preventing recurrence. We are so proud to fund Dr. O’s research and trials.
Beth Broyles Savage from Parkland Health Foundation was also in the house as a guest speaker. She discussed how the money raised through Breast Cancer Can Stick It! is being used to fund mammograms and breast cancer treatment to help those who are uninsured or under-insured.
As if that wasn't enough, members from multiple Facebook Groups were in attendance, including Drummergirls United, Trinity River Blues Society, and The Sisterhood of Us.
We want to give a shout out of thanks to all of our sponsors for making this event possible: 3 Nations Brewing in Carrollton, Brandi Mccomb Photography - DFW Wedding & Portrait Photographer, Maylee Thomas and Love Life Foundation, and Tamara and Jo King. This event was possible thanks to your generosity.
Also, big, big thanks goes out to the following for donating wonderful door prizes: Bethany Laube for the wonderful Self Care/Beauty Basket and Candles; Bill Tristen for his beautiful, hand-drawn pictures of female music artists; Berdion Aesthetics for providing their Facial Service and Laser Hair Removal gift certificates; and finally, Bobbie Gibson for two tickets to Stone Temple Pilots! You all ROCK!
And of course, thank you to all of the attendees who came from near and far to take part in this educational, fun event with other women to experience camaraderie and community.
It takes a village to make it happen and each one of you is appreciated for your contribution!
Behold, the power of women in music!
Our Founder, April Samuels will be a guest on “Bless Your Heart” this Friday, July 19th at 2pm.
The show is a half-hour format where the ladies share their thoughts on topics of the day and various other subjects of interest. Tickets are FREE for the live taping of the show.

This week on June 27, Lizzy Musi - a vibrant, 33 year old race car driver - passed away from stage 4 triple negative breast cancer, just one year after her diagnosis. It is in honor Lizzy and all the other breast cancer warriors we have lost that we continue pushing forward with our cause. This serves as a reminder to us that there is far more to be done. Thank you all for your constant support and helping us stick it to breast cancer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Lizzy’s family and friends 🩷🙏
To our survivors - tell us how long you are in remission? I (Annette) go first …

Announcing Drummathon X fundraising is now open! Yes, this year is our 10th annual Drummathon, hence we are happy to announce not only that fundraising is open, but also the unveiling of Drummathon X (aka Drummathon 2024)! This year’s Drummathon will be Sunday, October 20 at Grandscape in The Colony, TX. As this is our 10th ever Drummathon, we are shooting to reach (and even exceed!) our goal of $75,000 which will go towards mammograms, research and trials, and financial assistance for breast cancer treatment. Through the years, Drummathon has grown from raising $13,000 to topping out at $62,000. This year, we know we can make an even bigger difference, but we need your help to do it! Register today - whether you are a drummer or not - and start raising funds for this cause.
Remember, the event itself on October 20th will feature live music, vendor booths, auctions and celebrity drummer performances - with plenty of chances for you to interact with them as well! Be sure to tag and share with the drummers in your life. We want more drummers than ever this year!
Start fundraising today at drummathon.org/register/ ! For more information on the event itself, visit drummathon.org

Mark your calendar and plan to join Tuesday at 7p CT🤘🥁🩷
Back on Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day (March 3), we had our 11th Annual Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day Broadcast where three TNBC survivors shared their amazing and unique stories. As if that wasn't enough, we also had an expert in the field of this aggressive and rare disease - Dr. Joyce O'Shaughnessy. This week we published two of these interviews to our YouTube Channel. Survivor (and drummer!) Jeannine will inspire you with her positive attitude. Dr. O will empower you with information to reduce your risk of breast cancer, while also giving you a glimpse at the very latest in clinical trials and research.
Watch here:

While you are there, be sure to subscribe as we will be releasing more interviews from this special broadcast soon!
Something extremely important happened last month; it’s one of our favorite things to do! In case you missed it, on April 19, we presented annual checks to Parkland Health Foundation in Dallas - two for $17,500 each: one to fund mammograms for under/uninsured individuals and one for financial assistance for breast cancer treatment under the fund “Dahlia’s Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Fund” which honors the life and memory of breast cancer warrior Dahlia Garcia. It’s always a joy for us to see the staff and the facility at Moody Center for Breast Health. We are forever blessed to partner with such an amazing community of health professionals. It’s because of YOU that we have such a huge impact in this fight against breast cancer! Thank you for always supporting this cause 🩷
This check presentation was especially special as new board member Lori Peters-George (Skillet) was in town from Wisconsin to attend her first such event.
Coming up soon: our annual donation to research and trials! We can’t wait!
