The Zinema is still open tonight!
The first time I set eyes on Shelley Duvall was on a black and white TV at around age 7 or 8. My cousin was showing me The Shining while our parents played cards downstairs. I fell in love with her on the spot. She has given some of the most unique, nuanced performances that I have ever seen and also, she was in Popeye. I love everything about this incredibly imperfect film. All of my favorites are involved. Shelley, Robin Williams, Robert Altman and Harry Nilsson. And to celebrate her, the Zinema will be showing Popeye ONE NIGHT ONLY. 8/13 @ 7PM. I can't wait.

I'm sick of this not being at the Zinema anymore. So, I added two screenings in August so we could all party again. 8/27 & 8/31.

Let's keep blasting our way through the summer. Tickets just went up for Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure on 8/22 @ 7PM.

One of the most exciting things for me about curating films is finding new things. Sometimes it is just a film that I didn't know existed or other times it is a film that shows me a world that I don't have much experience with or adequate knowledge of. A couple of months back, a director sent me her film because she had seen my programming of other q***r films, specifically I Saw The TV Glow and The People's Joker, which were both incredible films. So, I took an hour and a half out of my day to watch it (the absolute best part of my job). I was excited. It invited me into the world of a trans woman and her journey and also gave me access to the gaming world that I am relatively unschooled in. I am a sucker for independent film and this film is so independent the director reached out as part of a grassroots marketing drive. This is what we support. Big stories told with the smallest budgets. I will keep this floating around for a bit. Come down and see it and tell me what you think.

DON’T MISS THIS ONE TIME SCREENING OF ADVICE FOR GIRLS
Thursday, Dec 14 @ 6pm At Zeitgeist
In partnership with Continental Ski & Bike
zeitgeistarts.com/community/transportation
Professional skier Addy Jacobsend wrote her poem “Advice for Girls” as a way to help overcome the limiting beliefs that stem from being a female in a male-dominated industry. Jacobsend was surprised by how much her words resonated with other women. After her friend suggested making a video, Jacobsend reached out to filmmaker Sara Beam Robbins. The feature-length movie Advice for Girls — newly released this fall — dives into the (often messy) reality of being a woman in the ski industry and celebrates their value to the sport. Unique to even other female-centric films, Advice for Girls features an all-female cast and production crew.
Featuring a panel about gender equity in outdoor recreation with Madison Atterbury, Megan Kress, Bobbie Larson, Lindsey Lee, and Megan McMahon; moderated by Alexandera Houchin
