The past two weeks have been busy for 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss as a few of our personnel attended several courses at U.S. Army Mission and Installation Contracting Command in San Antonio, Texas! 👏

🏆Sgt. 1st Class Frank Gomes and Staff Sgt. Sussette Lujardo, both from Contracting Detachment Bravo, graduated from the Contracting Master Gunner Course. Sgt. 1st Class Gomes was also recognized as the Honor Graduate. 🎖️

🏆Lt. Col. Jeromy Raatz (Battalion Commander / Director) and Ms. Jennifer Contreras (Construction Division Chief) successfully completed the Contracting Leaders Course.

🎃 Happy Halloween and Día de los Mu***os 💀

919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss celebrated Halloween and Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) on October 30th, 2024.

Members of the organization showcased their creativity by wearing their finest Halloween costumes in the contest for “Best Halloween Costume,” while each division vied for the title of “Most Decorative Pumpkin.”

Staff Sgt. Nimesh Tharmarajah’s Super Trooper Costume was the crowd favorite and Operations’ “The Real Horrors of Pumpkin Spice Latte” was voted most creative pumpkin.

Día de los Mu***os is a Mexican holiday widely celebrated throughout El Paso, home of U.S. Army Fort Bliss. It is a day to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed away.

MICC Fort Bliss’ Social Committee created an ofrenda (altar) where members of the organization contributed photos of their loved ones, treats, and other mementos of the deceased.

The festivities wrapped up with a delightful appetizer potluck celebrating Halloween and Día de los Mu***os, allowing us to honor the vibrant culture of the beautiful city of El Paso.

🎀October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month🎀

Throughout the month of October, Soldiers and Civilians from the 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss donned pink attire to show their support for breast cancer awareness.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., “1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2024, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Chances are, you know at least one person who has been personally affected by breast cancer.”

Mrs. Garcia provided a Small Business Brief highlighting lessons learned to encourage competition in the greater El Paso area and Southwestern region. She provided a quick “Q&A,” along with Maj. Miritello and Maj. Jones who provided additional insight and guidance to all present.

Sgt. 1st Class Patterson is well-known to the 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss, marking her second return and reinforcing the idea that 😎.

Throughout her latest time with us, she has taken on various roles, including Contracting Detachment Sergeant and Operations Noncommissioned Officer in Charge. Additionally, she led a team to Iraq in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve - عملية العزم الصلب.

Her wisdom, compassion, and sincere dedication to the organization will be deeply missed.

🎉 End of the Fiscal Year 🎉

The 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss celebrated the End of the Fiscal Year (EOFY) with a series of remarkable events honoring the unit’s tradition.

In the days leading up to September 30th, Soldiers and Civilians showcased their favorite sports gear, lounged in comfy pajamas, and dressed in their finest western attire to celebrate their hard work throughout the fiscal year.

The organization took part in delightful luncheons throughout the week featuring sub sandwiches, pizza, and mouthwatering dishes from Texas Roadhouse.

To cap off the festivities, everyone enjoyed a non-alcoholic self-serve bar and raised a toast to a successful EOFY. This fiscal year, MICC Fort Bliss completed 811 actions valued at $167M.

A heartfelt thank you to the MICC Fort Bliss Social Committee for consistently exceeding expectations in organizing these splendid events.

💼 UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso Career Expo 💻

U.S. Army Civilians play a critical role in the U.S. Army Mission and Installation Contracting Command (MICC)’s success, utilizing their broad skillsets in a variety of different fields.

Last week, 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss partnered with Army Civilian Career Management Activity (ACCMA) and participated in the University of Texas-El Paso' Career Expo, attracting local, regional, and national employers.

The intent of the partnership was for the outreach and recruitment of top-tier talent for potential employment at the MICC Fort Bliss office.

Maj. Marcell Jackson, Mrs. Sylvia Kane, and Mr. Floyd Cornett was able to secure over 60 resumes which will be submitted to the evaluation phase in an effort to fill vacancies and properly staff the organization.

We are looking forward to welcoming top-notch UTEP alumni to MICC Fort Bliss! 🤝

Congratulations to Sgt. 1st Class Shamanita Patterson on her graduation from the Master Leader Course (MLC) at the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, U.S. Army Fort Bliss.

The foundation of MLC is grounded in U.S. Army and Joint doctrine, enabling graduates to tackle challenges by effectively utilizing opportunities that leverage all available resources.

Upon the successful graduation of MLC, the Army can expect to receive operations-capable Master Sergeants who can lead their organizations to fight and win in complex, operational environments.

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Contract Specialists Mr. Jakeb James, Staff Sgt. Nancine Dezir, and Staff Sgt. Nishan Kharel, under the guidance of Contracting Officer, Maj. Lynn Jones, conducted an inspection upon the delivery of re**er trucks. Inspections are crucial to determine that items are acceptable and align with the requirements outlined in the Performance Work Statement of the contract.

The re**er trucks will be utilized by 1st Armored Division in support of the upcoming Command Post Exercise III and Warfighter Exercise 25-1 that will go through October 21, 2024.

It has been another productive week here at 919th Contracting Battalion / MICC - Fort Bliss as we continue to focus on End of Fiscal Year priorities.

On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, Mr. Victor Hernandez, Agency/Organization Program Coordinator (AOPC) conducted training on the Government Purchase Card (GPC). 💳

In attendance was the Assessment Cell, comprised of newly assessed 51Cs and GS-1102 fellows. This training provided a better understanding of the GPC Program.

Per Defense Finance and Accounting Service - DFAS, the GPC mission is to streamline payment procedures and reduce the administrative burden associated with purchasing supplies and services. GPC provides “on the spot” purchasing, receiving, and payment authority for individuals other than contracting or purchasing officers.

The delicious locally made paletas served as a treat in El Paso’s blistering heat! It was nice to gather along during the lunch hour for a much well deserved break during the most busiest times of the year.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this another successful event: Ms. Kyana Bennett, Ms. Silvia Kane, and Ms. Diamond Holmes for facilitating today’s event and Staff Sgt. Amairani Roberts and Staff Sgt. Suzette Lujardo Lahera for coordinating the paleta pick-up. 👏
