Prepare, Practice, and Believe.

Your Journey to a Smooth Delivery.

Your body is capable of incredible things, including childbirth. Trust in its natural ability to deliver your baby.

As you approach labor, fill your mind with positive affirmations to cultivate a sense of calm, strength, and trust in your body's innate ability to birth your baby. Repeat these affirmations with conviction, allowing them to wash over you like a wave of empowerment:

"My body is strong and capable of birthing my baby."
"I am relaxed and open to the birthing process."
"Every surge brings me closer to meeting my little one."
"I trust my instincts and the wisdom of my body."
"I am surrounded by love and support."
"I am breathing deeply and calmly, bringing oxygen to my baby and myself."
"I release fear and welcome the joy of childbirth."
"I am a powerful birthing goddess, creating life with every breath."
"This is a beautiful and transformative experience."

Remember, your thoughts create your reality. By choosing positive affirmations, you set the stage for a positive and empowering labor experience. Trust in yourself, your body, and the miracle of birth. You are capable, strong, and ready to welcome your little one into the world.

Every birth is unique. By preparing your body and mind. equipping yourself with the knowledge you need going forward, you can be more confident in making decisions.

Research shows that the better informed you are the better your position for pregnancy and delivery.

At N2 Physical Therapy we are passionate about supporting women throughout their lives, providing sound information based on research and statistics.

Perineal Tears can happen during child birth. Your perineum is the area between your va**nal opening and back passage (a**s). Tears can happen naturally, or be a medical procedure, an episiotomy.

Research shows that what is most important - and has the best outcome - is that the birth position should be the most comfortable one for the mom.

Types of tears are graded differently for episiotomy and natural.

Episiotomy is graded 1-4, with 1 being a small cut into va**nal mucosa, 2 into perineal body but not a**l sphincter, 3 into a**l sphincter, 4 through a**l sphincter

When it is a natural tear, they break down grade 3 with more details: 3a is less than 50% thickness of the EAS being torn, 3b is greater than 50% thickness of the EAS is torn, grade 3c is that the internal sphincter is also torn.

If you are concerned or anxious about labour you should always talk to your healthcare provider.

Our mental and physical health are so connected - we know this! If anxiety is persistent in your life, your pelvic floor could be one area to check if you've gone other routes.

So many of our pelvic floor PT clients report a reduction in anxiety. In fact, when our body goes into "fight or flight mode" it is our pelvic floors that tighten instantly.

For the men... a stealth suspect lies behind many cases of erectile dysfunction (ED) - your pelvic floor.

This muscular hammock supports more than just bladders and bowels. It's intimately intertwined with male sexual response.

When pelvic muscles grow weak, er****ons can suffer. Nerves are compressed, blood flow restricted. Arousal signals strained. Overly tense muscles also throttle er****on response. It's a hidden root cause of ED as common as aging, medications and disease.

But targeted exercise gives men a discreet weapon against disappointing firmness. Kegels for the pelvic floor tone and strengthen muscles. Clinical trials confirm it - a consistent training regimen significantly improves erectile function.

So while cardiovascular issues and prescriptions often take the blame, weak pelvic fitness may be the true culprit. The good news? Discreet physical therapy can rehabilitate those crucial muscles for men. Improving tone, blood flow and nerve supply for better performance between the sheets.

A strong, responsive pelvic floor is key for male sexual health. Investing in pelvic fitness pays inti

The "coregasm" - it's a real thing. New research reveals that a strong pelvic floor isn't just vital for bladder control and postpartum recovery - it may actually be the key to better or**sms and improved segg -ual satisfaction for many women.

The pelvic floor muscles support bladder control and play a major role in core stability. But studies show they also have an intimate connection to female segg -ual response. Women with strong pelvic floors are more likely to achieve o r g a s m and describe more pleasurable, explosive climaxes compared to women with weaker muscles.

How can flexing those out-of-sight muscles lead to better se (x marks the spot)?

Stronger pelvic muscles allow women to contract the va**na more forcefully during or**sm, enhancing sensations. Greater control over those contractions leads to more variability in rhythm, adding excitement. Pelvic exercises also increase blood flow to the pelvis, heightening arousal.

The takeaway? Fitness below the belt is crucial for satisfaction between the sheets. With targeted training from pelvic floor physical therapy to coregasm workouts, women can strengthen their pelvic floor and unlock their potential for more intense, satisfying or**sms and better overall sexual health. So put down the l**e and grab a pelvic trainer - the path to the elusive "blended o r g a s m " starts with a strong, toned core.

Let's think about warmer weather for a moment shall we??!!

High impact activity, such as running, is associated with a sudden rise in pressure throughout the abdomen as well as forces between 1.6-2.5 times one’s body weight throughout the body.

The pelvic floor functions to provide strength and stability during activity in order to support the pelvic organs and prevent leakage of urine or f***s during high impact activity.

If any of these signs or symptoms are true in your life, we would recommend checking in with your physical therapist ahead of re-starting your running routine postpartum:

πŸ’š Leakage of urine or f***s when running or when coughing/sneezing/laughing
πŸ’š Urinary urgency or frequency that is difficult to defer
πŸ’š Urgency with bowel movements that is difficult to defer
πŸ’š Sensation of heaviness/pressure/bulge/dragging in the pelvic area
πŸ’š Pain with in*******se
πŸ’š Constipation
πŸ’š Diastasis Re**us Abdominis (separation of the abdominal muscles)
πŸ’š Pelvic pain
πŸ’š Low back pain

As physical therapists, it’s important for us to make sure to be aware of the signs of postpartum depression in ourselves, our community, and our clients.

In this blog, we highlighted some signs and symptoms to be aware of, and ways that PT can be a powerful tool postpartum.

Thank you for taking a quick skim (it's good muscle memory to review these every so often so we can look out for our clients, friends, family - an even ourselves).

*sensitive topic*

This was hard to write, but we felt it was really important to honor all the women who have been through this experience and let you know that we are here for you.

This week as family is the focus, it can be unbearable to get through if you have lost an infant. We see you.

As one of the most painful experiences a parent can endure, saying goodbye to your baby is almost unbearable, leaving behind a deep grief that is both heartbreaking and isolating.

On top of the immense emotional pain, many parents also experience physical struggles in the aftermath. Labor and delivery still took place, even without a living child to bring home. The pelvic floor endured the stresses of pregnancy and birth, yet now faces recovery without the focus on a newborn. Tension, pain and other physical reminders can deepen the grief.

This is where pelvic floor physical therapy can offer crucial support. A pelvic floor PT helps the body heal from the physical toll of labor, delivery or c-section. Gentle hands work to relieve tension, reduce pain and guide the pelvic floor muscles back to full strength and function. But their care goes deeper - a PT also provides a compassionate ear and a safe space to process complex postpartum emotions.

The road of grief after infant loss is long, but you do not have to walk it alone. Pelvic floor physical therapy is there to care for both your physical and emotional well-being in this most difficult of times.

Reach out - you deserve support to heal body and soul.

As physical therapists, we often see how important sleep is for patients dealing with chronic pain. One of the main benefits of sleep is that it can help reduce pain sensitivity throughout the body.

When we're awake, our nervous system is constantly on high alert 😳 looking for signs of danger or discomfort. But when we sleep, the body is able to fully relax and let its guard down. This gives pain signals less impact during sleep, so patients tend to feel less pain upon waking.

Sleep also gives the body time it needs to heal and repair. After a long day of activity, the body goes through recovery processes while we rest. Cells regenerate, inflammation goes down, and muscles mend. For patients managing chronic conditions, this healing is so important. Without sufficient sleep, the body doesn't get adequate opportunity to recover. Over time, this can worsen existing pain levels.

Finally, lack of sleep itself can increase pain reports. Many of our chronic pain patients struggle with insomnia, as pain makes it hard to fall or stay asleep. But the reverse is also true - not sleeping worsens pain. The tired body is under more stress and less able to cope with pain signals. Over months or years of poor sleep, this constant cycle of pain and fatigue takes a major toll.

In our experience, addressing sleep hygiene is a critical part of an effective treatment plan for chronic pain. Getting quality, restorative sleep as much as possible can make a real difference in pain management and quality of life.

And you deserve it!
