Our History
In 1991, in recognition of the Bicentennial of the death of Mozart, a community choir was formed by Mr. Alan Porter (artistic director 1991-2008) to perform Mozart’s Requiem. The choir enjoyed themselves so much, they wanted to continue to perform. That choir was the foundation of what became The Cumberland Oratorio Singers (now Cumberland Choral Arts). CCA is a community choir with a diverse membership. We perform 3 to 4 concerts a year, and we’re known for our annual productions of Handel’s Messiah. Under the direction of Dr. Michael Martin (artistic director 2008-2017), we’ve also had the pleasure of performing with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, as well as the North Carolina Symphony. Under the leadership of our new artistic director, Mr. Jason Britt, we are looking toward the future, rebranding as Cumberland Choral Arts, as we further our efforts to be the premier Symphonic Chorale of the Sandhills region.
