I pulled the last of my onions a few days ago. It was such a satisfying thing, to pull the last batch out. After waiting for them to grow. It really seemed like they would never be done. I’ve still got a lot to learn when it comes to growing onions. This year was my first good run at it after two unsuccessful planting years. I let them cure outside for the last couple days. Now it’s time to tie them up and hopefully they will keep for awhile.
We use lots of butter in our household! I made two pounds this morning from our fresh milk. You can’t beat the flavor it adds to anything you cook. Fresh unprocessed butter is one of the many perks we get from fresh milk. Nothing added to it or taken away. Just butter.
Our sunflowers are showing out! They might be my favorite thing in the garden right now. Not only do they add color and beauty to our garden, they are also going to be a supplement to our chickens feed. Our hens LOVE sunflower seeds! 🌻🐓🌻🐓🌻🐓🌻
Herd shares available here at Oglesby farms! Raw milk is absolutely amazing! You can make your own butter with the cream off the top or put it in your coffee. Make some mozzarella cheese, cream cheese,or yogurt or just drink it and enjoy the amazing health benefits it provides for you!
It’s time to make my favorite pickles! Kosher Dill Refrigerator Pickles. Fill your quart jar with fresh sliced cucumbers. Then add 3 teaspoons of pickling salt, a cup and a half of white vinegar, 3 cloves of garlic, a few sprigs of fresh dill or 2 tablespoons of dried dill w**d. If your liquid doesn’t cover everything top it off with a little bit of water until it’s all covered. Pop it in the fridge for a few days and you have some tasty pickles. I shake it every now and then to mix up the flavors. You can add more or less seasonings depending on your tastes. These are a cool and refreshing snack in the summer time.
Fresh grey zucchini and bell pepper $1 per lb. Pick up at the farm in Finger.
The kittens enjoy a fresh milk snack every morning. They wait in the milking barn for their turn.
Our sunflowers are making their debut! We can’t wait for them to be in full bloom. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Today we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to give up their lives for our FREEDOM! We shall never forget those who died defending our country in all wars foreign and domestic. So as you go throughout your day today whatever you may find yourself doing just take a moment to reflect on these men and women and be thankful for them.
From the pasture to the table. This particular bird never even made it to the freezer. Support your local farmers folks not only for them but for yourselves! You’ll be glad you did. The quality and healthiness of farm fresh products will surpass anything you’ll find in a grocery store.
Our Sunday treat at the farm was homemade raw milk ice cream with a warm homemade sourdough brownie! Talk about good!

Yesterday, we talked about dressing percentage. Today, its cutout percentage. To go from a carcass to cuts in your freezer, the butcher will remove fat, bones, tendons, and some meat. Typically the retail cuts left after a carcass is broken down is about 55-62% of the carcass weight, and that will depend on the fat and muscling on the carcass, skill of workers, and the cuts you choose.
We have fresh milk available through our herd share. $8 a gallon. If you’re interested send us a pm.
