On Wednesday, Western Hills High School had a great visit from Mrs. Sandoval's News Crew 5th grade team at Luella Merrett Elementary School for the third year! During the visit, they had a great exposure to Fort Worth ISD Career & Technical Education classes offered.

Western Hills Media Production students led them in how to run the studio equipment that the high school video production classes use at the school. They also participated in other hands-on lessons about computer hardware repairs and robotics from the computer maintenance class, drew designs from learning the elements and principles of design in the graphic design class, and started to learn Excel spreadsheet skills through a fun game of Battleship using Excel in the business class.

It was a great opportunity to see the high school students become leaders during the sessions to show them what a future Cougar looks like!

As we celebrate the final day of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, itโ€™s essential that we recognize the significance of our CTE teachers in preparing students for successful careers and fulfilling lives.

These dedicated educators play a crucial role in bridging the gap between education and the workforce, ensuring that students are well-prepared for high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers.

02/28/2024

Career and technical education (CTE) programs serve as a critical bridge for high school students, offering them the flexibility to pursue higher education, dive directly into the workforce with a competitive edge, or even explore career paths they find less aligned with their interests โ€” saving them time and money while offering them countless opportunities.

Research shows that the average high school graduation rate of CTE concentrators (students who take more than one CTE course in the same field) is 96%, compared to the national rate of 85%. CTE empowers students to explore a range of careers before making significant commitments, fostering adaptability and direction.

02/27/2024

On National Retro Day, letโ€™s take a delightful trip down memory lane! ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ป๐ŸŽฎ

Career and Technical Education (CTE)โ€”once considered a retro pathโ€”is now making a cool comeback. ๐ŸŒŸ

In the days of yore, CTE was all about hands-on skills, vocational training, and practical knowledge. These were the realms where students honed their craft, learned real-world skills, and prepared for the workforce. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Fast forward to today, and CTE is experiencing a renaissance. Hereโ€™s why itโ€™s cooler than ever:

High Demand: The job market craves skilled professionals. From electricians to graphic designers, CTE programs provide a direct pipeline to fulfilling careers. ๐Ÿ’ผ

Tech Integration: CTE isnโ€™t stuck in the past. Itโ€™s embracing cutting-edge technology. Robotics, cybersecurity, 3D printingโ€”you name it! Students get to tinker with the latest gadgets and gear. ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ’ก

Creativity Rules: CTE isnโ€™t just about nuts and bolts. Itโ€™s a canvas for creativity. Imagine designing video games, crafting culinary masterpieces, or producing music. The possibilities are endless! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿณ๐ŸŽต

College, Career, and Military Readiness: CTE celebrates diverse pathways. Apprenticeships, certifications, and associate degrees lead to meaningful careers too. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”—

So, whether youโ€™re fixing engines, coding apps, or whipping up a soufflรฉ, know that CTE is both retro and ultra-modern. Itโ€™s the fusion of old-school wisdom and futuristic flair. ๐Ÿš€โœจ

Cheers to all the pathways available to our students, both "retro" and new. ๐Ÿ™Œ Keep rocking! โ€”itโ€™s all part of the cool CTE vibe. ๐ŸŽฉ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

P.S. If you find a vintage toolbox, give it a nod of respect! ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

02/23/2024

๐Ÿ”’ According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for cybersecurity professionals is projected to grow by 31% through 2029, making it one of the fastest-growing career areas nationally. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ป
๐ŸŒŸ Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with specific training and skills for a wide variety of careers in current or emerging professions. From skilled trades to health and medical technicians, CTE equips students for success in the ever-evolving job market.
