The Power of Friendship
Anyone who's ever had a close friend knows that friendship feels good in your soul; but, it turns out, it's also good for your body and mind!
A study of 3,000 women with breast cancer found that those with 10 or more friends were 4 times more likely to survive than women without close friends. It’s worth noting that these friends weren’t necessarily neighbors physically taking care of the women, many were long-distance. “Proximity and the amount of contact with a friend wasn’t associated with survival. Just having friends was protective.”
A different study in the Netherlands followed more than 2,000 people over age 65. After three years, seniors who described themselves as lonely had a greater rate of developing dementia.
Sometimes we think of our friends as burdens. After all, it takes a lot of work to maintain a friendship! But no matter how hectic life gets, remember: A true friend is a blessing for which there is no substitute
"Quote of the Day" "The most beautiful discovery true friends make is they can grow separately without growing apart."
- Elizabeth Foley
Do something today to strengthen a friendship.
Maybe that means reaching out to a friend you haven't spoken to in a while. Perhaps it's doing something sweet for a friend whose having a hard time. It could even mean taking the first step to make a new friend!
Whatever you do, it will be so worth it. After all, your friendships could save your life!
Great news for our cause...
