Here are some tribal names you may or may not have heard before but this information is good to know. The Apache are more inclined to identify themselves as N’de or Inde, meaning “the people.” Navajo People refer to themselves as the Diné, meaning (the) people. The Cherokee use their language to call themselves Ani-yun-wiya which translates to the "Principal People". Many Nations will use their own language when referring to themselves
No matter who you are or what culture you belong to, you have a lineage of ancestors behind you. Some folks dig deep into their ancestral line and can recite the names of their ancestors going back many generations. It is important to acknowledge your ancestors especially this time of year when the veil between the world of the living and those who have passed is thin. Give them honor

Serving Native American Indians & Alaska Natives Since 1978
It is the mission of the Sierra Tribal Consortium, Inc. (STC, Inc.) to restore wellness and promote healing of Native American Indian families and communities through Native traditions and spirituality, by providing quality, client-centered, culturally appropriate treatment, in a safe and sober environment.
Sierra Tribal Consortium, Inc. carries the message of hope, healing, sobriety and the spirit of wellness to break the cycle of addiction and violence among all Native people. The vision of the Sierra Tribal Consortium, Inc. is to achieve maximum health and wellness for Native American Indians, by providing culturally appropriate substance use disorder treatment and interventions that meet their needs.
The substance use disorder treatment philosophy at the Sierra Tribal Consortium, Inc. is based on the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (2011) definition of addiction:
Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors. Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response. Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death. (https://www.asam.org/resources/definition-of-addiction)
