We are honored to announce our 2024 Graduate Dean’s Medalist, Jennifer Duran who is completing her master’s degree in speech-language pathology. She is a proud Fresno State alumna, who also earned her bachelor’s degree in the same field in 2018.
Duran, who was diagnosed with hearing loss at an early age, will become one of the few hard-of-hearing speech-language pathologists in the profession. With that in mind, she aspires to set an example for individuals with different abilities that they, too, can do anything they set their mind to.
Duran’s own lived experiences with hearing loss and growing up in a bilingual home became the catalyst for her future career goals as a speech-language pathologist, where she hopes to continue working with families and individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds - and most of all, be an advocate for individuals with disabilities, particularly those who are Spanish-speaking and impacted by poverty.
“I saw how my parents struggled to find adequate resources for me because of their linguistic and cultural barriers. Remembering that has really ignited my passion to advocate for rights and ensure that everybody receives the same level of care regardless of their nationality, the language that they speak or their skin color.”
Going forward, Duran intends to continue her studies and hopes to obtain a doctor of education in educational leadership in the near future. Among her many career goals is to become a director of a speech-language pathology program, working as a humanitarian providing speech services to disadvantaged communities or becoming an educator so she can mentor bilingual students, like herself.

We are pleased to announce our 2024 Undergraduate Dean’s Medalist, Logan Mouawangyee, who is completing his bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with an option in physical education, as well as a minor in Japanese.
The son of first-generation immigrants, Logan has lived and learned all over the world, from Japan, Australia and the U.S. The many diverse cultures and landscapes from throughout his childhood have forged his commitment to succeed and to give back at Fresno State - his home for the past four years.
As an active member of the campus community, Logan has served in leadership positions across various clubs, committees and organizations on campus, including as a student coordinator for the Amendola Family Student Cupboard - a role he cites as the most formative of his college career.
Logan says he was drawn to the physical education field because he knows he has the power to impact young lives in powerful ways. Going forward, Logan intends on obtaining a single subject physical education teaching credential through the Kremen School of Education and Human Development and applying to the sport psychology graduate program at Fresno State. Inspired by his father, Charles, Logan is also exploring a possible career in the U.S. Navy.
