Smittcamp Family Honors College

The Smittcamp Family Honors College is an honors program on Fresno State's campus. President’s Scholars are recognized as the university’s leading learners.

The Smittcamp Family Honors College offers a substantially different learning environment than most honors programs. They study together in very small groups and receive personalized attention from faculty and administration. Our goal is to develop today’s honors students into tomorrow’s leaders. The Smittcamp Family Honors College is home to a small group of exceptional students at Fresno State.

For two weeks this summer, Itzel Michel, a junior majoring in Mathematics - Teaching Option, had the chance to explore K-16 schools and universities in Sri Lanka as part of the Noyce Scholars Program.

“The way each school greeted and received us with open arms always made me feel welcomed and at home. Whether it was greeting us with a flower, a leaf, food, a dance, or a song, every gift was much appreciated. Sometimes one can be so focused or distracted with deadlines, school, work, and other responsibilities that one forgets to stop, look around and appreciate nature and those around us. I would like to continue traveling and learning about other educational systems around the world. This experience has motivated me to find ways to encourage my future students to see the value in education and in what they learn.”
