Happy Pride Month🌈
Pride is a time to celebrate the resilience and recognize the importance of the LGBTQ+ community and its diverse perspectives, experiences, and contributions to society and to movements for equality for all.
Pride Month began as a time for the community to come together to commemorate the June 1969 Stonewall riots. While we can rejoice in the advances made over the past 55 years, we cannot lose sight of the changes that are still needed. LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face stigma, bullying, violence, discrimination, and rejection based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
New Perspective Counseling Services is proud to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and provide a safe space for individuals from all walks of life to better their mental health.
Share and comment below what Pride Month means to you!
Today may be the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month, but that doesn't mean we should stop talking about the importance of taking care of your mental health🤗
With a growing number of our close friends, family, loved ones, peers and colleagues struggling with their mental health every day, we have to continue to have meaningful conversations about our mental health - to break down the stigma of needing help, to advocate of changes within the mental healthcare system, and to help those in our community get connected to the assistance they need!
A couple of mental health reminders for you on this beautiful Thursday🧡
What do you need to be reminded of today?
Today, we remember all of the service members who have selflessly given their lives for our country and honor those who are still serving. We can never thank you enough for the sacrifices you have made for us.
Our admin team will be out of the office today, but we will be back tomorrow and look forward to connecting with you then!
Here at NPCS, we LOVE our coping skills🩵
Being able to regulate our emotions when times are tough is critical to keeping our mental health at its best. Healthy coping skills are a great tool to have on hand to help regulate us when we feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or frustrated with internal or external situations.
Swipe through to find out which health coping skills our team loves using when they find themselves needing a little extra emotion regulation!

It can be challenging to know what to do if you are worried about someone’s mental health. Talking to someone is often the first step when you know that they are having a hard time. Here are 7 tips to help you navigate these difficult conversations:
🕐 Set aside a time to talk without distractions. It is important to provide an open, non-judgmental space for them to share their feelings with you.
🗣️ Let them share as much - or as little - as they would like. Let them lead the discussion at their own pace and don’t pressure them to talk about anything they aren’t ready to talk about.
❌ Don’t try to diagnose them or second guess their feelings. You probably aren’t a medical expert or a trained mental health professional. Try not to make assumptions about what they are going through or jump in too quickly with your own diagnosis or solutions.
❓Keep your questions open-ended to encourage the conversation to continue. Try to keep your language neutral, give them time to answer, and don’t overwhelm them with too many questions.
🦻Listen carefully to what they are telling you.
🤝 Offer to help them find professional help. Trying to find mental health help can be overwhelming, so offering to help search for providers or community resources for them can be helpful. However, be careful not to take control of the situation and allow them to make their own decisions.
⛔️ Know your limits. You will have your own limits on the support you can provide. Try to help them create a support network of other friends, family, and mental health professionals who can help them.
Remember that if you believe they are in immediate danger to themselves or others OR they have injuries that require medical attention, you will need to take urgent action to ensure they are safe - including contacting emergency services or taking them to the nearest hospital!

Whether you check in with your friends, attend a recovery meeting, or reach out to a therapist (maybe one of ours?) to set up an initial appointment , you are taking a step in the right direction!
What will you do today to better your mental health? Drop a comment below!

Did you know that Texas has ranked LAST in access to mental healthcare across the country since 2019? *insert sad cowboy emoji here*
Every year, Mental Health America ranks the states based on how much access to mental healthcare exists within the state. Access to mental healthcare in Texas is low due to a number of reasons:
🔸Texas has the highest number of individuals who are uninsured (nearly twice the national average) and the private pay rates for mental health providers are not always affordable for some Texans
🔸Even if a Texan does have health insurance, mental health benefits may not be available as a part of their plan or their plan may only cover certain mental illnesses - Texas plans are only required to offer the minimum mandated benefits for mental health
🔸Even if a Texan does have health insurance that covers mental health services, many individuals and families are required to meet their astronomically high deductible before their health insurance plan covers any portion of their visits - and those costs can add up quickly
🔸There are simply not enough mental health providers to provide Texans with adequate mental healthcare - 2/3 of Texas counties don't have a single psychiatrist and a number therapists have waitlists that are months, even years, long
As a part of our mission to help make mental healthcare more accessible, New Perspective Counseling Services is proud to have providers on our team who have immediate availability for members of our community who are struggling with their mental health AND providers who offer significantly reduced rates for those in our community who are uninsured, out-of-network, have high-deductible plans, or are on a tight budget and can't make other private pay options work for them. If you are in need of counseling services, please reach out to our front office and let us help you experience your best mental health today!

American youth are facing a mental health epidemic.
Childhood and adolescence are critical times for physical and mental development. According to the 2022 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report, 20% of youth (ages 3 to 17) are living with a mental, emotional, developmental, or behavioral issue, condition, or disorder. Now, more than ever, it is important that we acknowledge the struggles of our youth and get them the help that they need.
There is a role for everyone to play in supporting our children, teens, and their mental health. Parents, family members, teachers, school administrators, and healthcare providers can create protective relationships with our youth to help them grow into
the mentally healthiest versions of themselves.
Swipe through to see how you can best support our children and teens🧡

"A semicolon is used when an author could have ended their sentence cut chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life."
World Semicolon Day is a day for us to come together to honor those who have been impacted and affected by su***de. The semicolon represents a continuation of life, not an end; it marks a decision to move forward, not to stop.
It takes strength and courage to continue on when it all feels like too much. If you are still here writing your story, we want you to know how proud we are of you and grateful that you are here with us today. If you are currently struggling, we want you to know that you are not alone in your struggles, that you are loved and wanted here, and that it is time to connect with a licensed mental health professional or seek immediate psychiatric intervention.
If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis or are actively in danger of hurting yourself, please call 988 (The Su***de and Crisis Lifeline), 911 (for immediate medical attention), or go to your nearest emergency room.
