Today at Hebrew School we learned about the piece of Hashem we have inside of us … our NESHAMA! The Neshama is pristine, can never be tainted or lost, and it feels happy when we do Mitzvot, act kind, and make Hashem shine within us.
Sometimes, we might listen to the tricky voice that tells us to do the wrong thing, against what our Neshama wants.
But remember - you are always good inside!
“Enter into a serene ark of contemplation and prayer and let the floods of life lift you high.”
-Chabad.org
In this week’s Torah portion, we read of Noah and the ark. The world was flooding around him, and Noah put his trust in G-d, and rode through the storm in the ark as the waters of the flood lifted the ark higher and higher. The word for ark in Hebrew is “teiva”, which means word. Putting our trust in G-d is expressed through words - Torah learning, prayer, and reciting psalms.
This week is a big one. With Tuesday being Election Day, some of us will rejoice at the outcome and others, less so. We must do what we have to do to try to ensure the outcome we hope for, and then we must enter our own ark, our Teiva. Let’s put our trust in G-d, channel our energy into words - into learning Torah, and praying. Praying that G-d will guide the chosen candidate to lead positively for our country and for our people. And then, let the floods of the world lift us higher - because in our ark, higher is the only direction we’ll be able to go.

“On Simchat Torah we dance with our feet, and all feet share the same ground.”

Tonight begins the climax of the High Holiday season - Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah. It is the holiday on which we complete the cycle of the Torah reading and celebrate the Torah by dancing with utmost joy. Although Torah is something to be studied, its completion is celebrated by dancing with the Torah closed. For, although we may all be intellectually different, when it comes to dancing, our feet are all the same, giving us the ability to celebrate together, equally.
Please light a holiday and Shabbat candles in memory of our dear Chana bat Yehuda Leib, tonight at 6:26pm, tomorrow after 7:21pm, and Friday at 6:24pm.
Chag Sameach & Shabbat Shalom!
The Sukkah on Wheels has been traveling all around this week, bringing the joy of Sukkot to Jews all across the Upstate - and of course to our lovely Downtown Greenville!
Chag Sameach, y'all!
Many of us are asking ourselves: How can we celebrate the joy of Sukkot and Simchat Torah when our Holy Land is at war, and we await the release of hostages each day?
The Lubavitcher Rebbe addressed this very question on Sukkot in 1973, when Israel was defending itself from the shocking combined Egyptian and Syrian attack on Yom Kippur. The Rebbe explained that Joy is the mandate of the holiday, and just as we accomplish great things through prayer on the Days of Awe, so too can we achieve greatness through joy on Sukkot and Simchat Torah.
"Joy breaks through all barriers." It is how we show our faith in G-d's divine miracles and our confidence that He will protect His precious nation.
Join us this Simchat Torah for an uplifting evening honoring our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, those who were taken from us, and those for whom we are praying today.

“With the Mitzvah of the Lulav and Etrog, we accept the oneness of our shared soul into the harmony of our diverse bodies.”

The Mitzvah of the 4 kinds is to take 4 different species and bind them all together, say a blessing and shake them. Each of these species has different characteristics - with one smelling good but not having a great taste, one having a wonderful fragrance but no specific flavor, one being both great tasting and great smelling and one bland and scentless. It is explained that each of the 4 represents a different type of Jew, with the smell and taste referring to the observance of Mitzvot and learning Torah. Some Jews learn Torah and do Mitzvot, some prefer only one, and some don’t do any. Yet, each species is required for the Mitzvah to be complete and each Jew is an essential part of our people. Even the one who does not engage in Mitzvot, nor does he learn Torah. We are all an indispensable part of the Jewish people.
Please light holiday and Shabbat candles! In Greenville, light tonight at 6:34pm tomorrow after 7:29pm, and on Friday at 6:32pm, in memory of our dear Chana bat Yehuda Leib.

Tonight is Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year. Yom Kippur is a day dedicated to forgiveness, and looking to the future by analyzing the past. However, we must not get stuck in the past. Using the past as a stepping stone for the future, sometimes requires just a minute change of direction. Shifting a small amount can entirely change our trajectory, and one small move is something we can all do.
Please light Shabbat and holiday candles in memory of our dear Chana bat Yehuda Leib at 6:41pm in Greenville.
Shabbat Shalom and Good Yom Tov!

We, the Jews, are not Jews by choice. We are Jews because G-d chose us to be the chosen people and gave us a unique mission in this world. Our Judaism lies beyond our logic, even beyond any emotional connection - it is G-dly. It is this G-dliness that inspires our day to day purpose, this G-dliness that drives every Mitzvah, every good deed that we do. Let’s channel the G-dliness within us, adding in positivity, in acts of goodness and in “Jewishness”, preparing the world for a better tomorrow.
