📣🚔 Attention Greenville! Starting today, you'll notice something extra on our patrol officers' vehicles. We're excited to announce that our officers will be using "cruise lights" while patrolling the City of Greenville. 🚦✨

Unlike emergency lights, cruise lights are designed to enhance visibility without causing any alarm. Officers' light bars will display a gentle illumination, with only the blue lights on the left and right sides glowing softly. These lights will always be on, and they're dimmer and non-flashing compared to emergency lights.

The purpose of cruise lights is simple: to let our community know that our officers are actively present, ensuring your safety and security. They serve as a symbol of our commitment to keeping Greenville a safe place for everyone. 🌟🚓

Remember, you only need to pull over when an officer has flashing blue lights activated. So, if you see our officers cruising with their blue lights on, feel free to wave and acknowledge their presence. Together, let's build a stronger and safer community! 💙🤝

The City’s Public Works crews will be performing smoke tests on the sewer system in the Rutherford Road and McNeil Court areas starting Tuesday, January 30 and completing by Wednesday, February 7 (weather permitting). The testing will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during those days.

The smoke testing will be done with a portable blower using eco-friendly mineral oil to produce the smoke. The blower sends the smoke through the sewer system including the service connections. During the test, if there is a bad connection, toilet seal or broken pipe in a home/business smoke could enter the building. If the smoke is found in a building during these dates please call the Public Works Department at 864-467-4335. During this process, the Fire Department is also notified that we are in the area as well and will respond if called.

Attached are maps showing the areas that could be affected by the smoke test.

The City of Greenville is asking residents to be aware of rising flood waters due to heavy rain expected throughout the day.

Parts of the Swamp Rabbit Trail are temporarily closed due to flooding:

· The southbound route from the Spinks Bridge to South Hudson Street (adjacent to Mayberry Field) is closed. Temporary barricades are placed along the north side of the bridge.

· The River Street underpass is closed.

Trail users are asked to avoid flooded areas. Do not walk through moving water. Six inches of moving water can make you fall. If you have to walk in water, walk where the water is not moving and use a stick to check the firmness of the ground in front of you.

Additionally, United Community Ice on Main and the Greenville Zoo are closed today.

12/23/2023

No trash and recycling collection services will take place on Monday, December 25. Services will run one day later for the remainder of the week.

ACADEMY STREET BYPASS DEBUTS

With the addition of a second right-turn lane from East North Street to North Academy, a faster route around downtown is now available for motorists.

City engineers added the second turning lane on Tuesday. Along with the removal of a traffic signal at Elford and Academy streets and the retiming of the remaining traffic signals along Academy, motorists will find an efficient, safer route through downtown. The change supports efforts to increase walkability in the city center, with projects like the Cultural Corridor - a plan to create a pedestrian-friendly walking route from Main Street to Heritage Green, eventually including a lane reduction along West North and Buncombe streets by the end of 2024.

So, if your travel plans do not include a downtown stop, Academy Street is the go-to, to go around downtown!
