Derby Academy celebrated its 233rd Derby Day Lecture and Graduation Exercises on Wednesday—Congrats to the Class of 2024! 🎓🎉
Derby celebrated the academic, athletic, and artistic achievements of Grade 8 students at Last Chapel on Tuesday.
After studying plants and animals and researching an animal of their choice, first-grade students invited their families to come to a recent Community Meeting to see a presentation that included fun facts and jokes about their research animal. After the presentation, families joined their "animal experts" back in their classrooms to share their research and habitat displays.
Middle and Upper School students enjoyed a day of friendly competition yesterday as they competed in the annual Field Day events!

Last Thursday, Derby celebrated the arts during the annual MS/US Arts Night. With visual projects on display and musical performances on the stage, the creative and artistic talent at Derby shined. The night also featured the world premier of "Broad Cove Legacy," an original composition by Derby Academy Band Director Brian Martin and performed by students dedicated to the Academy's 100th year at its current Broad Cove campus.
Upper School Drama students put on a fun and entertaining performance of "Clue" last week!

Yesterday, Grade 5 students showcased their International Studies capstone projects during a "Look and Learn" event. These projects represented the culmination of their deep dives into various countries and global issues. Throughout this interdisciplinary endeavor, students crafted research-based informational essays, delivered compelling news reports, and developed innovative business projects that aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. McKelvey Gym was abuzz as community members explored students' exhibits and celebrated their learning. 🎓🌍📚🔍💡
Last Friday, the Primary and Lower School hosted an Arts Morning featuring an art gallery walk, the Pre-K "Peter Rabbit" performance, and the Kindergarten "Rainbow Fish" performance. It was a fun-filled morning featuring impressive art and heartwarming theater productions! 💙
Local author Ashley Hiehiapo, who wrote "Beach Pig," visited Derby this week to speak with Kindergarten students in connection with their ocean unit. 🌊
Grade 6 students put on a fantastic performance of "The Wizard of Oz" last week! Congrats to all the students and faculty for all their hard work on the production!

Prior to the Primary and Lower School Field Day last Friday, students gathered with their Pals for a t-shirt signing. 💙
Grade 8 English class students are busy leaning about Shakespeare! They recently took part in a Shakespeare Workshop with visiting guest Dev Luthra, a professional actor with extensive experience in performing and teaching Shakespeare's plays.
A recent highlight of Grade 2 students year-long yoga practice was having Paul Kent, yogi and the first simultaneous bilateral recipient of the Ewing Amputation procedure, visit Derby to speak to the class and join in on a yoga practice. Kent's main message to the students was to practice gratitude and always be curious.

Food Drive
Grade 4 students invite you to donate food items such as granola bars, mac and cheese, crackers, and cookies.
*Students in grades 4–8 can place their donated items in the bin with their spirit team logo to see who has more at the end of the collection date, Derbies or Toppers!
Dollar Drive
Grade 5 students invite you to donate a dollar to help the Hingham Food Pantry purchase perishable goods such as milk and eggs.

As the culmination of practicing yoga twice a week for 15 minutes all year long in second grade, students recently took a walking field trip to Krigsman Yoga in downtown Hingham. Derby Academy alum, parent, and owner, Amanda Shields guided the students through the flow they have been doing all year.
Students showcased their musical talents on the Larson Hall stage this week at the After School Instrumental Recital. Congrats to all the students for their hard work and dedication to pursuing an instrument! 🎶
