The Honolulu Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated would like to congratulate Madison Kendro as the inaugural winner of our John Hawkins Achievement Scholarship. Madison and her family were able to have a celebratory lunch with memberss of the chapter and receive her check before heading off to Williamette University this fall!

Last Wednesday, March 6th 2024, Honolulu (HI) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. volunteered in “Read Across America” with Iroquois Point Elementary School, Ewa Beach, HI. Each year, the Honolulu (HI) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. supports the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Festivities and Parade. This year was no different! Supporting, and having representation in the MLK Day Parade, reminds us of the past lessons and of our responsibility to serve one another – and how we should reaffirm the dignity and equality of all people.

Farewell to Brother Bishop Sparks, an extremely dedicated brother of the Honolulu (HI) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Brother Sparks planned and led the Chapter's Wine with Kappa's Event and is always willing to step up for Kappa. Brother Sparks, is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army and was selected for a Battalion CSL position at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Congratulations and farewell Brother Sparks and best wishes on your upcoming Battalion Change of Command. We say Yo!

Happy Birthday Founder Elder Watson Diggs!!!

Elder Watson Diggs was born in Christian County, Kentucky, on December 23, 1883. He received a one-room school education in Louisville, Kentucky, where he helped teach the younger children. Following graduation from Indiana State Normal School in the spring of 1908, Diggs enrolled at Howard University in 1909.

Diggs transferred to Indiana University in the fall of 1910 and was the first Black student to graduate with an A.B. degree from Indiana University’s School of Education in 1916. He subsequently earned his M.A. in Education from Indiana University in 1944.

Diggs held educator positions at public schools throughout Indiana. Following his death, School #42 was named in his honor where he served as principal for 26 years. After WWI began, Diggs resigned as principal, entered the nation's first officer's training camp at Fort Des Moines, IA, and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He subsequently became a Captain in the Reserve Officers Training Corps.

Based on discriminatory circumstances facing Black students at Indiana University, Diggs decided to establish a fraternity on campus to give them support and sanctuary based on high Christian ideals and the purpose of achievement. Diggs assumed responsibility for creating many of the primary fraternity documents and emblems.

He served as Grand Polemarch, a Grand Board Member, and Grand Historian. He established the first nine undergraduate chapters and the Indianapolis (IN) Alumni Chapter. Diggs was awarded the first Laurel Wreath, the fraternity’s highest honor.

The second-highest award available to celebrate a member’s achievements or service to the fraternity is dedicated in his name. Founder Diggs died on November 8, 1947.

The Honolulu (HI) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. continued our annual support to the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children's Santa Workshop Toy Drive. This year, the Chapter donated $2,000 in Toys and Gift Cards. We'd like to say THANK YOU to everyone involved to make this happen. Through your overwhelming support and efforts, we were able to spread some holiday cheer to the children who are hospitalized and will not make it home with toys, games, and gifts.
